[Solved] Installation Fail. 2012 Macbook.

Hello BL Folks.

I'm enjoying BunsenLabs on my 2009 Mac Mini and am trying to get it to work on my 2006 iMac (5,1), but with no success.

Crunchbang++ and MX Linux have previously installed successfully on the iMac, without much tweaking, but BL keeps hanging during boot. I've tried various GRUB edits, to no avail, and I can get to the terminal, but haven't figured out what's missing from the various .conf files. I'd like to try a new strategy by which to fix the problem.

Given that other Debian-based distros have installed (and I presently have CBPP up and running), I'd like to (manually) copy the contents of the necessary files from CBPP (perhaps checking MX, too) over to the BL .conf, etc, files.

The question I have is, which files should I copy to increase the probability of a successful installation?

Thank you in advance, for your help.

Re: [Solved] Installation Fail. 2012 Macbook.

Are you trying to install Lithium from the cd/dvd image?

Or are you trying to follow this guide to install Beryllium?

If the former I'd suggest trying the latter.  It's due release shortly & should only a tweak to sources when it does, not a complete reinstall.

Re: [Solved] Installation Fail. 2012 Macbook.

That worked! Good thinking.

The installer failed to install the 'standard system utilities' so I just continued on without them, and all went fine. I imagine I'll just install those utils as need be.

Thanks very much, Bearded_Blunder. ;-)

Re: [Solved] Installation Fail. 2012 Macbook.

You may find some things broken without standard system utilities.
If you wish to quickly try to preempt that, open a terminal:

tasksel --task-packages standard | xargs sudo apt install -s

It should tell you what's broken & why.. & if that runs without error just replace the -s with -y to install them.

If the simulation fails feel free to post the terminal output in code tags, I'm sure someone will at least try to help troubleshooting.

Well-anticipated guidance, Bearded_Blunder. Tasksel went well. What a superb distro and community. Thank you!

Do you think I ought to alter the title of this post so it will better describe the problem and thus (hopefully) help others find the solution more easily?

Well I'll leave that to you, but it might be easier for anyone with the same problem if it said:

Rather than what it does I suppose.

Okay. Still working on getting iMac ('06) and Mac Mini ('09) set up. Murphy's Law at work. ;-)
