Just for the fun of having it running on an old laptop I tried to install Lithium on my old Eeepc. It took some time and quite a few error messages, but it seems to have been installed. But.... for some reason Lithium is now asking for user/password in the opening screen. I used only one combination but that one isn't recognized. Any hints on how to proceed?
Live starts without problems on the Eeepc 910.
Next problems to be tackled are network (wireless and cord, as during installation they led to a blank screen so i skipped them for the time being) and repositories to update (they seemed unreachable in the Live-session).

Well it should be asking you for whatever username & password you set during the install process.
I know it's stupid, but you haven't accidentally hit capslock either now or when you set the original password? Or somehow got the keyboard into numlock during either? The output would be considerably different for the same keys.
Other than that, knowing exactly what errors would be helpful, I saw none when installing on my old Eeepc before it decided it would no longer power on (hardware issue) & went to the great recyclers.
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed...
If there's an obscure or silly way to break it, but you don't know what.. Just ask me

Yes, it shall do that. After you have logged in, you can set auto-login.
So, if you remember wrong, or you when sett password typed wrong twice or if you set password with correct locales but due to install-error now do not have that, you might need to change your password. You have checked that correct locales is chosen when you try to login? See second screenshot in topic: Introduction to the Bunsenlabs Lithium Desktop
To change password, you have to boot into chroot environment and give command: 'passwd "username"' (without qoutes and replace "username" with your unsername.
How to chroot into your system is described in topic Chroot help-script. Download the script, Copy to /root and edit partition to suit you.
But, I would recommend you to do a reinstallation. When correct done, you shall not have any errors...

So you had no network in live session either?
Did you connect cable? You can try to disable ipv6 when booting: Press TAB at the menu entry an then add “ipv6.disable=1” just before "-- quiet. IPV 6 if ill configured can get Debian installer to hang.
If that does not help, check on an internet-cafe or library if you can get network running.
If still not, you need an usb dongle (for cable or wifi), known to work withdebian stable.

-That's a known combination, but a rejected one.

-I thought of that, too. But, alas, trying the combinations had no effect. But you're right: a open eye pitfall, when you can't séé what you're typing.
Other than that, knowing exactly what errors would be helpful, I saw none when installing on my old Eeepc before it decided it would no longer power on (hardware issue) & went to the great recyclers.
-This one goes in time down the same road. But I wonder(ed) how long such a (cheap!) device can be usefull. Installing Lithium was by the way more difficult (very much more) then my first Bunsen Labs OS (some 5 years ago?).
Thanks for taking time to respond!

I'll try the suggestions. The IPv6-thing I read already as an option. But first step 1: getting in
Thanks for your suggestions!

--Sorry. I read over this line. But no, when using Live everything worked just fine. That was/is the reason why i thought installation might be worth giving a try.
I'll continue trying whenever I have (more) time on my hands.
Thanks

So, I do not understand your comment "repositories [...] (they seemed unreachable in the Live-session)."

Don't aks how 'i' did it, but Lithium is installed. I tried RBH's suggestion and did a new install. A few observations: this install went waaaaay faster then the first one(s). Perhaps some unreproducable glitch?? The install went sour on 'network', so i decided to choose 'install later'. Wireless and corded are however functioning! The password-thing is solved also. Went through the same procedure and filled in the same data. But I now see my own name in the dropdown menu and not 'diverse'(Dutch for miscellaneous)which i can't explain. My conclusion: the first attempts have corrupted 'something'. Starting all over did the trick.
However, when trying to install LibreOffice Writer during installation the proces aborts. Something with 'dependecies'. I am going to search how to fix this one. No hurries as the Eeepc is very little used and mainly as a rescue option: writer, mail and webbrowser.
But I am (very) happy I have conquered the machine and have now Lithium installed on it.
Thanks you all for tips, tricks and support.
