^ You've outdone yourself! Cinnamon DE scrot, nice! GNOME too! Cool logo, no fat man there. Not like here...

The OB theme is your keeper here, though!

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

The new siduction release, codename 'wintersky' is out. Downloading KDE now, I need to see the new Plasma...

https://siduction.org/2021/12/release-n … wintersky/

Interesting, they've abandoned GTK desktops. Gaa, no torrent links! 2-3 hour downloads that might fail! Run, run!!!!

I'm seriously considering installing this to a real partition...

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

Just installed the latest preview version of Daedalus (Devuan 5.0), and so far it's working well with no obvious problems except that so far there's no sound.

You now get a choice of three systemd alternatives when you install, OpenRC, Sysinit V (which I went for) and runit.

Not entirely, they still offer Xfce.

The procedure hasn't really changed from the Beowulf install (3.1);

https://www.devuan.org/os/documentation … installing

I couldn't duplicate that myself, even if I had a photo hosting service to use. I used manual partitioning so I had a different short series of steps to follow from the ones shown here at 10/ and 11/, but otherwise it's pretty much the same.

I'd want to see whether or not the sound problem is fixable before I start recommending Daedalus though (it's not a finished release).

have you tried posting on the Devuan forums about the sound issue? Perhaps others might have had the same problem and maybe came up with a solution.

That looks good and I may go with the plain fluxbox (Xorg) flavor.

Thanks for replying. Haven't yet, I've only just installed. I'll have a look at it later and if I can't fix it that's the next step.

I couldn't get it to thumbnail without the link also being a thumbnail. In the monthly scrot thread I would never post such a large image because there are so many images posted, but here I thought it was acceptable. ;D

BTW, on reboot KDE is refusing to connect to my WiFi. Thankfully, there are no issues with my main partition, rock-solid Beryllium.

Not the Devuan forums, but I found this thread on Stack Exchange;

https://unix.stackexchange.com/question … -of-debian

Sauce Code's advice worked for me. I installed alsa-oss (alsa-base and alsa-utils were already installed), and then "sudo alsactl init" got the sound working.

So all's well that ends well! Thanks for your advice anyway.

Great you finally got the sound working on it...guess pulseaudio has some hard dependency on systemd thus not installable on Devuan so using the OSS emulation worked for you. This may be something to be aware of on Devuan at the moment.

Thanks, though it was more by luck than by design since I didn't know what OSS was - the instructions on the thread I linked to just said "install these packages", and alsa-oss was one of them.
