I am making a mistake in my thinking. :8 It's not as simple as originally thought because parcellite is active here and there is no jgmenu.

I installed Mate on a whim. It's surprisingly awkward as far as the learning curve goes, but here's the scrot, messed up dual-monitor xrandr and all...

I also suggested a retro theme, but without those icons. We'll wait and see, the decision is Damo's and John's as far as I'm concerned.
