new setup in melbourne - with bonus pooch.
I love the weird sculpture in front of the boarded-up fireplace - that's almost some sort of conceptual art, a statement, in a domestic context
I found a 24" Dell monitor with a removable stand and in great condition, no screen chips and only one shallow, very narrow 2mm scratch, the plastics are all good too. It was left for trash in front of an apartment when some tenant moved out.
That's how I got my current monitor. I've had it for years now.
Then we also have an electronic waste bin a few hundred meters away; I must admit I sometimes go scavenging there just for the heck of it, and used to have an accumulation of usable devices (a couple extra monitors, PSUs, even a 500GB hard drive).
There's a computer repair shop (probably the last of its kind for miles around) a few hundred meters in the other direction from that bin, I suspect the shop owner is filling it regularly.
Evtl. I got fed up with the hoarding and brought almost all of it back to the bin - and as it happens so often in life, soon thereafter I was sorely missing a second monitor...
So I went back to the bin, and there it was waiting for me! Now I have 2 monitors of identical size and comparable quality. I think they're both 22". They definitely are of 1680x1050 resolution.

not sure if serious :-)
it's a rented house and a previous tenant left it there - I think it's a holder for dried sticks/long dried flowers etc that you see in some houses. I like it empty too though

I'm jealous, that is certainly not a thing in most or maybe all of the US. Most everybody throws electronics and batteries into trash because they don't know any better, which goes into landfills, eventually corrodes and then can contaminate ground water. Heck, even recycling is a scam in this country, something like over 80% of it goes into landfills.
It's gonna be great when people's Teslas start being disposed of here, we'll have landfills of burning Tesla batteries.
No, he can't sleep on the floor. What do you think I'm yelling for?!!!

That would be handy. Ours is several kilometers away, and the bin is set in ground fairly deep. Would have to bring a ladder with me.

^ PackRat lives about an hour car ride away from me, somewhere in the woods of South Carolina, I think. Why does he have an electronic waste disposal bin and I don't here in Charleston, one of the largest metro areas in the state?
https://www.charlestoncounty.org/depart … ations.php
Laughing now, "The Romney St. Convenience Center is closed." I know that center, it's a 6 minute bicycle ride from my house. What a scam, they don't even collect my recycling a third of the time. And the collection is only every other week in the first place.

Electronics recycling in Charleston is handled by independent contractors like Meridian Metals. The local schools may also accept electronics for recycling as part of a funding drive; check with the school district.
I live about 3 hours from you over by the Savannah River site. Sizeable engineering demographic in this area with lots of electronics to recycle.

It certainly isn't the norm around here either, and a compuer repair guy using it makes it even better.
Without him it would be mostly hair dryers, toasters and crappy phones...
But hey, you did get your 24" monitor!
Come to think of it, we also have this waste disposal place nearby where people can bring larger stuff with their cars, with neatly labeled containers for different types of waste - and again, one for computers.

People have hacked/reprogrammed those sorts of accessories to augment/automate tasks they weren't intended for. There's lots of little projects on github and the like. Pedals to switch workspaces/monitors, for example. Also been done with driving pedals, midi stomp boxes, etc. Basically, anything containing firmware chip of some sort (or connected to a Raspberry Pi or Arduino) is game. Some people in my profession use Behringer mixing consoles for Lightroom or Capture One adjustments.

Yup, just like my system, almost identical, just a few minor details missing.
And according to the subject title: » Post your actual desk(top)! » I cannot post an image.
Why - because I cannot see my "desktop". I must clean it off someday.

Nope. Desktop means everything on it too. So, when will you be posting?
