Hello,
I use Helium+Openbox on a Lenovo laptop with an external screen.
I am not happy: actually, the screen of laptop and the external screen are one great window. So of something is launched, i appears in the lower left corner; then it is not easy to take it and drag it onto the external screen (can you understand my English?:).
I studied xrandr, but did not found any help.
Outpuy of xrandr:
rbc@v320:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3840 x 1080, maximum 8192 x 8192
eDP-1 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 382mm x 215mm
1920x1080 60.02*+ 59.93
1680x1050 59.95 59.88
....
HDMI-1 connected 1920x1080+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 521mm x 294mm
1920x1080 60.00*+ 50.00 59.94
1920x1080i 60.00 50.00 59.94

I'd try arandr (gui for xrandr). Test in vbox:
Your mileage may vary, depending on the drivers used.
Worth reading: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/multihead
p.s. Also 'obconf' gui, section 'Windows' is probably worth checking.
