I used and liked Siduction for a year or two a few years back. They were a great group of people, too.

Good to hear there's a new siduction release. I was a user of siduction in the past as well as it's ancestors sidux and aptosid. The IRC channel may be quiet but if you need help that's a useful place as well as the siduction forums.

Former aptosid user here. Whether you upgrade manually from Debian stable to sid,  use a Siduction ISO or get a sid setup in some other way, the Siduction forum is an incredible resource for any sid user.

Back in the Statler days of CrunchBang there was an Xfce version, I still miss it.
This may work out to be a base for a substitute.

DXT2-1.2 is up:
https://github.com/dessington/dxt2/rele … 2/dxt2.iso

And it's sister Xevuan-1.2 based on Devian (minus Sythtemd):
https://github.com/dessington/xevuan/re … xevuan.iso

Preseed install versions only. Live versions to come.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

@8bit, that looks nice, and you testing BL packages with Xevuan and how well do they work? I might test drive Devuan base with BL packages to see if I can build a nice Devuan-BL.

I've upgraded Lithium to Sid with only a few hiccups but with a few fixes got everything BL working great on Sid. The latest BL packages work great on Sid so it should be not an ordeal if anyone's adventurous enough to upgrade to Sid.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear. This is a stock install. (other than the theme/icons) The creator of Xevuan added the BL repo.

Ohh that's a nice touch and bet the dev of DXT2/Xevuan must be a BL fan too.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

So, this is not really distro-hopping but terminal hopping:

First I left my trusty rxvt-unicode for xterm.

Then I wanted T/OTF fonts, and saw that xterm doesn't perform so well there.

Then I thought I'd try some of those newfangled hardware-accelarated terminals.
Kitty is pretty cool, it can do many things beyond being just a terminal...
Then I found zutty (sic) and read a long article about how it is generally so much better than other terminal emulators. Yep, that guy is opinionated. Try to find the bit where he essentially tells potential contributors to drop it until it's well formulated and thought through.
But on the other hand he applies these same standards to his own work I presume, and he is eating his own dog food.

I then spent a long time comparing vector font rendering on alacritty, kitty, xterm and zutty - and zutty currently looks best. It's usable and stable enough and configurable via Xresources.
It just might become my new default.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

^ zutty is interesting, but it is lacking some font features that I require. And it doesn't look like those features will be added, the dev is very outspoken about this.

So right now it looks like a choice between kitty and alacritty, unless someone can tell me how to achieve pixel-precise resizing with xterm or some other similarly featureful terminal?

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

@ohnonot, I haven't read the thread (sorry), but has this been posted?

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=150971

EDIT: Answered my own question; terminator allows per-pixel resizing if you disable window hinting in the preferences.

But window hinting is disabled by default, so maybe not.

Then there's this, konsole...

Sakura?

Thanks, this is helpful, but Im not going to start using terminator now after moaning about it for years wink

konsole is out for me because a) I'm sure it's heavy and b) it pulls in half the KDE desktop.

This actually looks interesting.
How do you change color themes in GTK-based terminal? I'm guessing it's the same as for lxterminal.
(BTW, lxterminal is not configurable enough for me, otherwise it would be a good choice).

edit: I looked at "xterm window size hint" and "xterm pixel precise resizing", also searched the man page, but it doesn't seem to exist. There used to be a patched urxvt, but it's not in the AUR anymore.

There is no "Use system theme" option in Sakura. Even worse, the color selector tool for Sakura uses the useless GNOME one. Install gcolor3 in bullseye or sid to pick the gtk colors (or open the gtk2.rc file for the theme) and copy/paste the values into the 'Custom' option of the crap color picker in Sakura (and other GTK3 apps). Just right-click the terminal window to bring up a menu.

Easy enough if you change themes only occasionally, and not hard if you don't.

I also am not a fan of Terminator A.K.A. the slowest terminal to open I have ever seen.

Sakura is actually great, I'm using it ATM.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

I'm impressed with Swift, which I'm using at the moment. It's heavily based on MX but adds some updates, themed wallpaper for the login screen and desktop and the KeePassXC password manager.

Swift comes in several "flavours;" I've got the IS (InterState) version, but there's also a Hannah Montana version and a Taylor Swift one for fans of the singer / songwriter.

Other than the rebranding, I don't see any difference.
