Re: acer aspire shutdown issue

Is this a new problem? How are you trying to shutdown? Does it lock up when using the exit dialog gui? Have you tried starting a tty and issuing the shutdown command directly on the commandline?

Re: acer aspire shutdown issue

I use distro around 3 weeks
It is my first swap from windows
There is no other system on my laptop
When I shutdown from gui - then I have situation like on the attached shutdown screen
When I shutdown from commandline - then I see only prompt "_" on the top left corner

For both shutdowns laptop and external display are still alive and the only way is to push power button for complete shutdown

Re: acer aspire shutdown issue

Try a web search for similar issues with Acer Aspire laptops - it may be an old problem. For example, this solution involved using the grub parameter

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash noapic irqpoll"

You can try this at the grub boot screen (follow the instructions at the bottom). If it works then you can then set it permanently.

This post in the above thread has several links to possible answers: https://www.linuxquestions.org/question … ost5306723

The screendump, says it is an Asus Aspire ES1-311. Could not find specifications about it on Asus hompeage.
I made an internet search for "debian linux Aspire ES1-311 can not shutdown". The first link i found was: " [Solved] Acer laptop won't shutdown normally.

That fix, was to add kernel bootparameters "noapic irqpoll" to grub.cfg.

If that does not help, You might have a slightly different hardware.

In Terminal run comand "sudo inxi -Fxz" That command gives more information about your hardware. Instead of taking photos, you can copy the information from the terminal and paste it in the reply window surronded by Code tags.
