Too much lag etc..

I made a persistent BL Lithium Deb10 USB live key from the ISO using Rufus. I boot on i5 6th gen CPU with 16gb of memory: I noticed unacceptable lag to open basic applications after bootup: anything from terminal to browser would take 15+ up to 45 seconds to open. Im using a relatively fast Kingston DataTraveller 100-G3 64GB USB key FAT32 with a 3gb ext3 persistent partition. The problem only happens the first time I open any given application after boot.

Debian 10 removed the Preload application to allow faster access to often used applications. Im looking into having all my needed apps open at boot up (terminal, vim, browser and file manager). How can I do this?

Another annoyance is the hidden clock settings, the calendar stuck open in the menu which cannot close, the settings button in the menu is missing to choose sessions (but shown here from the  BL Forum Intro to Lithium Desktop topic screenshot )

Sorry, nothing to advise about the lag, but:

See the clock section of whatever tint2 panel you are running. Menu > Preferences > Tint2 > Edit Tint2s > Running tint2s... The clock is near the end of the file, starting ~ line 217

the calendar stuck open in the menu which cannot close

Click the clock one more time to close the calendar.

the settings button in the menu is missing to choose sessions

The sessions menu is on the LightDM login screen, where you type your login password to enter a session.

This is a rewrite of your post: Improving speed of USB live persistent use, with some additions.

I answer there and recommend you not to post same question in different posts.

Edit: Also recommmend you to read the sticy introductions in "Getting Started"
