Re: Trying to Get Dell Touchpad to Work

Probabley better chans of getting help if you give info of your Dell modell.

Also, what is the problem? Is it totaley dead or...
What have you done to try to fix it? Seen this post and followed the adwices:  https://appuals.com/fix-dell-touchpad-not-working/

Is this an new installation with BL iso? Helium or Lithium? or is it an Buster 10 with Lithium packages installed.
The problems with touchpad, did the come without any apparent reason, after uppgrading or...

Does the touchpad work if you boot a livedist (BL..)

I have retired my Dell laptops. Can not compare. But on my Lenovos, I do not need to install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics.

What are your settings in autostart (UNDER HEADING ### TOUCHPAD:)

But you haven't answered any of @rbh's questions, so how do you expect to be given a fix?
How could https://wiki.debian.org/SynapticsTouchpad NOT give you ANY useful info you could supply here? At the very least you could find out which touchpad you have.

Do we need to install crystal_ball.deb hmm

So, the touchpad's mouse-function works, and you can click. What is not working?
In "the windowslink", was the information that many have got their Dell touchpad working after having connected an external mouse. Did you try that?

I don't know if there is a funcion that I have to enable throw the terminal.

A little hard to understand. BL has shortcuts for open File-manager. Text editor, Terminal etc. You can also Right-click with mouse top open application menu and klick on the teminal entry. You want a third option to start terminal with touchpad?

The Info That I Gave You All I Have.

You know how the problem started and evolved.
You know what you have tried to doo to fix it,
You know (or can easely check) if the touchpad works when booting live dist.
You know how your pc is installed, if it is an Helium or Lithium installation, if it is newly installed etc.

Do you not know what your autostart is? If it is a standard BL Lithium installation, it is file ~/.config/bunsen/autostart if Helium, it is ~/.config/openbox/autostart

You do not know how to find out if process syndaemon is running? in terninal issue command:

ps -ef | grep syndaemon

If the helper syndaemon is running, the drivers for the touchpad should be loaded.

I must have copied and pasted wrong before, I do have xserver-xorg-input-synaptics installed. Was installed during the installation process, have not needed add it later. Should have been installed on your pc, should not be needed to add it manualley later.

So if there is anyone with a Dell Latitude 2100 laptop with a non working touchpad please reply Thanks...

Do you not want response from those who have same hardware working?

Please Don't give me WINDOWS Links because am running Debian... Thanks

The one "windows link" i gave you, had som advices well worth try independent of OS.
Have you run Dells linux diagnose program?
Dell also have som advices when debugging the touchpad: https://www.dell.com/support/article/sv … ta?lang=sv

The debian link I gave is outdated, Archlinus wiki is more up to date: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics

Command "less /proc/bus/input/devices " should list your touchpad.
i get the answer:

I: Bus=001d Vendor=06cb Product=0000 Version=0000
N: Name="Synaptics TM2668-002"
[...]

Re: Trying to Get Dell Touchpad to Work

1.) Scrolls But Does Not Click When You Double Tab The Touchpad

2.) I understand The Drivers I installed The WIFI Intel Driver With No Problem Also The Display Driver With NON Problem.

3.)I just want to make things clear on this form post. I have done my Research on this using Linux I been Using Linux over 10 Years. Just Have a Little hard time installing the drivers.

4.) The Mouse Work it just the pressing the touchpad (Not The Clickers Right & Left) Just The Touchpad is not working but it works with scrolling so that is a head scratch.

Which is why you need to know where the configuration is set, which depends on what type of touchpad you have. Why do you think you need to install drivers?

If you are using synaptics then look at the configuration options, and activate the Tap action in your autostart, with a synclient command. See what your current settings are, using

synclient -l
