Suspend problems with HP elitebook 6930p

Hi,

I am trying to get an old laptop up and running with linux but I am having issues with suspend.  The model is HP EliteBook 6930p Notebook PC.  I can suspend the machine but when I press the power key to wake it up I am left with a frozen screen (I can see the bunsenlabs window manager but the mouse is frozen and the keyboard unresponsive - the caps lock button does not work.).

What I have tried so far:

I have installed both 64/32 bit Lithium and 64 bit Helium - all have the same issue suggesting that it is hardware related.  I have installed acpi-support and this made no difference.

I would love to get the machine working properly as it runs pretty smoothly but the suspend feature on a laptop is pretty crucial.

Any ideas/suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance,

MArtyn

Re: Suspend problems with HP elitebook 6930p

Not much info here.
Logs, hardware, drivers...
Look at some of the stickies here on the forum. maybe something will help with that.

Wild guess: a graphics hardware/driver problem.
You could try to boot with nomodeset and see if that helps.

In any case, be aware in your web searches that the problem is most likely not BL-specific and solutions for Debian 9 (oldstable) or even Ubuntu-based distros might apply.
Example: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=debian+after+ … eze+frozen

Re: Suspend problems with HP elitebook 6930p

Hi,

Thank you for the response.  Would you advise on which logs should I be consulting and posting please?

The hardware is:

Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset with ICHM9-Enhanced, 1066 MHz front side bus (models with integrated graphics)
Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
2GB RAM.

I did try the "nomodeset" on the 64 bit version of Lithium that I installed but not on the Helium installation.

Thanks

Martyn

^You could try:

sudo journalctl -af >> /home/$USER/SUSPEND.txt

leave the terminal open
then use the bl-suspend button to put the computer to sleep

wake him up a minute later and see if he logged anything.

Looks something like this:

That's why I asked you to look at the stickies, I'm getting real tired of giving basic troubleshooting advice all the time. It's one of these things one should figure out before starting a post. No offence but there, I said it.

Any perceivable difference?
