[Solved] Warning message related to iniramfs when updating system

Since a week or so I get the following warning message every time I update my system. I does not matter if I use Synaptic or command line.

update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.19.0-9-amd64
cryptsetup: WARNING: The initramfs image may not contain cryptsetup binaries
nor crypto modules. If that's on purpose, you may want to uninstall the
'cryptsetup-initramfs' package in order to disable the cryptsetup initramfs
    integration and avoid this warning.

What is this about and have anyone else experienced this recently?

/Martin

Re: [Solved] Warning message related to iniramfs when updating system

Hi Martin!

Yes, I have had it. Got it for some months ago. I uninstalled cryptsetup and updated initramfs, then it was gone. It is more informational text...

Se more in bug report: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo … bug=901830.

If you do have encrypted hd and get the message, there is something wrong...

Re: [Solved] Warning message related to iniramfs when updating system

I have experienced it and it is like earth (mostly harmless)
It appeared for me when I first installed cryptsetup to initialise encrypted containers or block devices. Cryptsetup-initramfs had been pulled in as a dependency (which is quite clear since you may  work with encrypted partitions afterwards) and sits there waiting patiently until someone is working with initramfs and complaining about not being ask to play with the cool guys whenever this should be the case.
If you are sure that you will not need it, you may simply

sudo apt remove cryptsetup-initramfs

or you choose to ignore this warning like I do.
You may also give it some work to do, but I guess you know about that...

I hope this helped a little.
EDIT: rbh was faster.. ok...
