New install of Boron on HP elitebook 8530p, battery detection issue

Haven't posted for quite a while (2022-12), haven't done a new install for a while, coming back post-pandemic and life changes etc.

This is my 6th computer with Bunsen. It's a great project.
My collection: 4 HPs of varying age 1 Dell and 1 Toshiba. This one is 2008 vintage, and bigger than my older ones. (yes, I run them all, for not too much reason except that they're all free as in beer)

Install notes: it did a live version with USB and then refused to recognize the USB at all, so I burnt a DVD and plugged in an external DVD drive and installed no problem. There was something weird in the bios which I didn't understand so I shifted to that.

The only odd thing: the battery says in the power manager (I'm using org.xfce.powermanager) says "50%, waiting for discharge". This computer sat for 3 years, had Windows 7 on it, which I never booted into. Maybe this means the battery is shot?  AFAIK the previous owner (deceased or I'd ask) bought it reconditioned from a reseller who replaced the battery probably about 2018.

Maybe this means the battery is worn out?

Thanks! Happy with BunsenLabs.

Possibly.

Is inxi installed? You can run:

inxi -B

in a terminal, it will give you condition information on the battery

from inxi -h

-B, --battery System battery info, including charge, condition voltage (if
critical), plus extra info (if battery present/detected).

The condition voltage would be ~100% on a new battery.

Re: New install of Boron on HP elitebook 8530p, battery detection issue

From

$ inxi -B

I got

ID-1: BAT0 charge: 25.0 Wh (50.0%) condition: 50.0/73.4 Wh (68.1%)

So it's there with 50% charge I guess, and condition is 68% I guess.

Thanks for your help. If there's anything I got wrong, let me know please.

That's right. My Dell is circa 2018; original battery in the same condition.
