Installer Freeze

FYI

The live version works fine but the installer freezes at choose language, both the graphical and the text based.  Used boron-1-240123-amd64.hybrid.

Have had a variety of successful installs with other distributions on the machine. Have MX Linux on it now, I use  an old MS Surface Laptop 3.

addendum.  Out of curiosity, I tried to see what would happen on my main computer, a system 76 lemur.  Freezes at the initial screen, can't boot into live or install.

Re: Installer Freeze

Try burning the ISO to USB again.

sudo cp *.iso /dev/sda;sync

Or...

sudo cp *.iso /dev/nvme0n1;sync

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

Re: Installer Freeze

Figured it out.  The installer does not recognize the track pad or keyboard.  If I swap out the install stick for the usb mouse dongle, I can move the cursor around and click.  I never did get to a point where I could enter text, but it did not accept the Enter key or any trackpad click. It also did not accept input using the text only installer.

It has just the one USB port, so I think I am stuck, even if I get a USB hub (ordered), I would not be able to enter text for the install.  I only use the machine for a distraction free writing with just nvim and a browser.   I doubt anyone else want to put it on a Surface 3 laptop, so probably a dead end.

addendum  same thing happens with crunchbangplusplus install, which uses the same installer.

Re: Installer Freeze

Same issue.  I have Mint installed and working on a 5 year old MacBook Pro.  My function keys are on a touch bar and non existent under Mint.  The boron-1-240123-amd64.hybrid.iso works in live mode and when attempting install, it will freeze on the first choice screen, no keyboard or touchpad input.  I added a USB keyboard and was able to install.  Now that it is installed both the keyboard and touchpad work.
