Is 6.1.69 current gentoo "stable"? Sorry, I know nothing about gentoo. big_smile

I know nothing either but this is the Gentoo kernel.

I have looked at updating to the latest but I haven't done it yet.

Re: January 2024 Screenshots

@Dobbie, no problem. If you have no issues using the default kernel, I'd just stick with it. Hardware support is the only reason I've ever upgraded from a stable version. Couldn't get display brightness keyboard shortcuts working with my new-ish laptop with the bullseye kernel, a newer kernel (bookworm/bullseye-backports) solved that without any configuration.

@Pinhead, nice desktop!

Re: January 2024 Screenshots

@hhh, wise words.  As I am compiling 6.7.0.

EDIT:

I'm glad the kernel was taking so long to compile, gave me time to change my mind.  Sticking with default.

No reason to update, except for security updates. That seems much harder to do on Gentoo than, say, a distro like Debian or Arch or Fedora or openSuse...

My system always looks the same, with minor tweaks here and there to conkys, OB menu etc. even if I change the ISO used to install it.

This is Beardog ISO, meaning 'bare', of Lilydog, fame.  I did not install the rest of Lilydog, if I had wanted that I would have installed Lilydog ISO.

So basically all you get from me is a new and sometimes boring wallpaper.

I don't use BL, but I recommend it to everyone that asked about Linux.

Re: January 2024 Screenshots

1 out of 5 BL devs use BunsenLabs.

Me: Ubuntu

Dobbie: Gentoo

Sector 11: Beardog - a lean Lilydog ('bare'dog) install - pure Debian 12

rbh: ?

John: BL. Thumbs up!

This is not a criticism of BunsenLabs or Debian, this is stating that you can make pretty much any Linux distro work for your needs if you take the time to learn how to remove the cruft and maintain it.

Re: January 2024 Screenshots

I just did that on Ubuntu, same wallpaper and desktop folders, and immediately uninstalled it. I thought it sucked. Badly, blech, hated it. big_smile I couldn't get it to do anything, no mouseclicks.

The mouse wasn't working? Good ol' enlightenment - or maybe a Wayland issue ; I'm surprised it didn't segfault on you.

Re: January 2024 Screenshots

It looked gorgeous. It just didn't work. It was difficult to leave the session, everything froze. Not sure if I just long pressed the power button or not, though. Short term memory is a problem these days. Where the f*ck are my keys? Oh, where I always leave them. F@ck!

I would have called Roy back from Argentina, but he had already reached the end of his life span. Thanks, @Sector, it was a learning experience!
