Lenovo non-laptops Linux firendly?

My main computer is getting old (10+ years). It still works fine but the slightly younger monitor is starting to act up. Its PSU is slow to wake up so needs a bit of nudging since earlier this fall. I assume the computer is not far behind.

We all know Lenovo ThinkPads go well with Linux (and perhaps BSDs). My X230 has been living up to this reputation for sure.

Is this also true for Lenovo stationary computers? Like this one for instance:

(I bought my X230 from this company which is specializing in refurbishing and re-selling company computers.)

Re: Lenovo non-laptops Linux firendly?

The link you provided does not take me to a particular system.

However, I have some experience that may be useful.  A customer of mine ran a Debian server for some years on an old (Core 2 Duo, before the Intel i-series) Lenovo desktop tower.  That was fine.  My more recent experience was on a small (about 4x20x20 cm) Lenovo system, which did not work well.  The processor fan was either full speed (quite loud) or Off (system overheats).  The third BIOS setting, where it would be controlled by the O/S, was equivalent to Off.  I had purchased it used and sold it soon after.  As a result, I am reluctant to recommend Lenovo desktop systems for Linux.

I have had very good experiences running Linux (including BunsenLabs) on the Dell systems in the 'Optiplex' series (name used in US).  That does not include the very small (4x20x20 cm range) systems, or the AMD CPU systems where I have no experience.  However, the tower systems and the small (roughly 10x30x30cm) systems with Intel CPUs have worked very well for me.  The systems I have had do not use standard power supplies, but I have never had to replace a power supply, either.  (I'm not opposed to AMD CPUs -- I just don't have that experience.)

Good luck.

OT:  I have four or five of Piet Hein's English Grook paperbacks.

Re: Lenovo non-laptops Linux firendly?

Thanks for the response.
Sorry about the link. I didn't test it...
One model that is available from that company is Lenovo Thinkcenter M920S.

Yes, Dell is an option. Some models can be bought new with Ubuntu -- even in Sweden. My first Linux computer at work was a Dell. It worked really well.

I am also looking into what European vendors of 'Linux computers' have to offer.

I am fortunate enough to be able to enjoy the Gruks in Danish.

So that box should run fine using Debian bookworm (or trixie/testing or sid), or probably any OS running a 4.15.* kernel or later.

Lenovo even has a page with answers to questions about running Linux (and even in Swedish!)...

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?
