Boron 32 bit beta 1 iso available

There is now a 32 bit Beta 1 trial iso available.

Some of the issues in alpha 1 have been fixed in this 32 bit version, on Sourceforge at:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/bunsen … hybrid.iso
sha256: 33fd085a5427f0f769a5b833ff47b6f1e3dcd43a9dd1d3cb17e6cf4e20eeda1f

Because it's a 32bit build aimed at underpowered machines:
* no composition: transparency, shadows or round corners
* no menu icons
* dillo instead of firefox
* urxvt instead of lxterminal

and a few packages left out.
You can compare the package lists for the "all" and "lite" variants here:
https://github.com/BunsenLabs/bunsen-me … an/control
The live-build package lists should be identical.

If your 32 bit machine runs OK on this system, you can easily try restoring the standard 64 bit eye candy:
*) install picom - picom.conf is already provided.
*) enable icons - in jgmenurc set

icon_size           = 16

*) install firefox-esr - this will likely be a big system load, but OTOH dillo is somewhat lacking in functionality.
*) install lxterminal. I hit a strange glitch using rxvt-unicode and lxterminal isn't hugely slower, except maybe on very old machines.

There's probably room to discuss more things that could be left out of the "lite" package list.
(If there's time later maybe we could think about an absolute minimal 700MB CD iso again. If that's even possible...)

There do seem to be some small glitches that need fixing before the official release, but even so, and even without the composition, the aqua theming looks quite pretty IMO. smile

Feedback will be most welcome!

I'm in north Europe, the link works for me.

Can you browse all BL.SF-files: https://sourceforge.net/projects/bunsen … ases/files?

The BL server is in Europe and the official release will be downloadable from there, but it shouldn't make much difference.

Re: Boron 32 bit beta 1 iso available

Thanks!

Unfortunately it doesn't help me if this ISO is located in San Diego.
As you know, more than 10 years ago my government stated that the Internet was 'virgin territory' for Germany and that hasn't changed today. I don't have time for a "droplet download" of 2 to 2.5 hours. Europe's sick man has become even sicker.

Ain't their serverfarm in San Fransisco?...

You don't need to sit and wait for the download...
If you know a free Germany-based filesharing, i could upload the iso...
Or split it and mail you.

Hi, @rbh,
that would be a whole new experience and cool if you do that. Thank you so much!

I have an account here and have been very happy, for years. Check it out, free of charge, up to 2GB. https://workupload.com/

I created an account. Chosed the beta iso. When I press the big blue button: "Share now", it goes grey and nothing happens.
I dropped admin a note.

Have used quite many FileSharing services, never experienced malfunction like that...

Edit:
Tested upload the build.log (1.3MB). Noticed that it said "Ready". That is why i could not share the iso, it was not yet ready. you will get mail when it is ready.

Re: Boron 32 bit beta 1 iso available

Live session 2x tested

Already the bios, the live session and finally the desktop need several
several minutes at startup.

After that, it's fast. Applications like Synaptic, gParted, Power Manager, Thunar, Mousepad etc. start immediately from the menu.
Other partitions are mounted in Thunar without problems and are available to the user.
Keyboard switching to de = OK

Here are the specs of the machine and the .xsessions-error immediately after startup and the switch from LAN to wifi.

Thank you.

Re: Boron 32 bit beta 1 iso available

@unklar many thanks for checking the new iso so carefully!

I also have a rather old 32 bit laptop which I'm curious to compare with yours. Especially the: "Already the bios, the live session and finally the desktop need several minutes at startup", and comparing what inxi has to say.

Re: Boron 32 bit beta 1 iso available

Running it in LIVE mode now on an older Dell (not my computer), looking great! When locking the screen, a window opens reminding one of the username and password for LIVE sessions, awesome! I wasn't expecting that.

I'm having a problem on my own Lenovo 81X7 IdeaPad 3 14ITL05 laptop, though. The USB ISO is not recognized. There are no problems with a 64 bit ISO, but the BIOS doesn't "see" the 32 bit one. I'm not finding any info on the web. Anyone have any ideas? I don't really want to partition and install this ISO on a computer that's not mine.

Re: Boron 32 bit beta 1 iso available

Update: I thought maybe switching to Legacy boot would solve this, but Lenovo has removed Legacy boot mode from many models (including mine) going back to 2020. I'll probably have to skip testing an installation of this ISO, sorry.

Re: Boron 32 bit beta 1 iso available

^It might possibly the same issue that was stopping grml - a vanilla-named vmlinuz only. The (identical) numbered version was left off the 32bit iso to save space, but since grml didn't like that, it will go back in the next 32bit build. Let's hope that also fixes it for your Lenovo.

Let's try and get an amd64 beta out soon, incorporating all the recent fixes.
Then an improved 32bit to try on your Lenovo.
