I was using the sgfxi (from https://smxi.org) script to install nvidia drivers for many years and it has worked quite well and had few issues with it. Something like this is a useful start even though it makes use of the nvidia package installer rather than debian packages.
Tested this on a test BL install on a machine with an nvidia card and no issues noted.
I used to use smxi ages ago. I did look at that again but was under the impression it no longer worked. Will look again for the sgfxi script. I may not have been looking hard enough at that option. Thank you for that

Ah wait... smxi may be the answer- just a couple of minutes reading

reminds me of how useful that site is - after cloning my SSD I will attempt an install and let you all know how it went

Note that this method even though it works isn't supported by Debian so if you use this method you should be able to resolve issues on your own.

I've had no issues install NVIDIA drivers on Bookworm for a half dozen cards of various ages with drivers from the Debian Repo; unlike Bullseye.
8bit
addition to my previous post
I just tested smxi, and I think I made a mistake somewhere along the line. I know I can make it work, as I realised my mistake just after I decided to recover my bl installation with clonezilla.
I will try again tomorrow. It was a good exersise and made me realise something of how complex the issue must be from a developers point of view. smxi might be slightly difficult for those new to linux or those not using the commandline much, but is an excellently made set of programs
I realise now it was telling me that although my card supported the latest drivers the kernel didn't, but the installation would work if I chose to install slightly older drivers once logged in.

I remember a while back smxi was getting a lot of criticism in some quarters for borking systems. That's probably why it's not available in Debian, although the related (and very useful) inxi is.
It might have improved, or it might just be that many people get along with it fine. But:

That's why I put that caveat in my post as there's users that might hit a corner case with this script. The dev has his own forum (techpatterns.com) plus an IRC channel on OFTC (#smxi) for support with any issues with the sgfxi/smxi scripts.
Inxi by the same dev is quite mature but there's been more development recently.

I tried again, twice more, using smxi/sgfxi, using different options and could not figure out the process. This time it confused me even more. I am looking forward to the time johnraff suggests for the discussion. It will interest me a lot. Meanwhile over the next month or so I intend to research smxi a lot more

Hey, thare's no clampdown on discussion! Anyone with advice is of course free to post right now. All I meant was that getting anything organized for adding to BL would have to wait till post-Boron. Dev time is limited.
PS please don't expect any useful input from me on this subject - it's way outside my comfort zone.

Absolutely ! my post just meant I will love to see you guys talk about this subject and, of course, time is valuable and in short supply, so whenever you find the time to give it some serious thought my ears will be standing up like an archetypal cats ears.
It's your distro - your pace. My place is just to see you guys find the time and the solution in your timescale
