CLOSED(Not a Bunsenlabs issue) Turning off session timesouts

Hi,

In https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic.php?id=6463, I marked the issue as resolved, but I would like to reopen the topic. The resolution was to go to:

Menu -> Preferences -> Power management -> Security

and set to the desired choice. That still works, but I suspect the choices given back then were of a wider range, because back then I was able to set the session timeout to a sufficiently long value that my PC was not timing out very often.

The current release I am using is:

Description:    BunsenLabs GNU/Linux 10.5 (Lithium)
Release:        10.5
Codename:       buster

I find that I can set the automatic timeout to 61 minutes, but no longer. Can this be changed in future releases. I work in a home environment with minimal risk and my preference is to set the timeout to 6 hours. I certainly understand the risk of setting this value in a semi-private location, but my location is totally private and secure.

So please, in future releases, make a much larger timeout option available!!

Regards,
Jim A.

Menu -> Preferences -> Power management opens the settings window of xfce4-power-manager.
Any changes there, compared with earlier versions, are due to that package and are beyond our control I'm afraid.
You could consider reporting a bug upstream.

John,

Thank you. I assume that means check with the Debian developers? No, need to answer that. I will contact them. Funny thing, is that I checked with them months ago and was told to check with my distribution, i.e. Bunsenlabs.

No, I meant the XFCE Power Manager developers.

Debian devs will usually suggest you contact the derivative you are using, which you indeed did. We in turn are suggesting contacting XFCE.

But before you do that, you might want to make sure the option you want hasn't moved to a different tab. On Beryllium/Bullseye Preferences -> Power management -> Security has nowhere to select a timeout. System and Display do, however. System has sleep mode, and "When inactive for" which goes up to 5 hrs 50 min. But you could also choose not to time out at all.

I might also add, on the old thread:

Can you explain what you did in case other have the same problem.

Got no response. Help goes both ways!
