How to Fix A Ubuntu Login Loop Issue

I had this problem recently with Mint 20 on my machine after I'd updated it; it kept on sending me back to the login screen and with no end in sight.

Luckily the first one of these suggestions I tried, changing the permissions of the .Xauthority file, worked for me although I did it in a different way from the one suggested here (I changed the permissions from a different distro on my machine after mounting the Mint partition from within it, and by using midnight commander);
