SSD & Formatting

Hi all,

#! user upgrading to bunsen. Thanks to bunsen team for continuing the project.

Note: am pretty much a novice Linux user. I don't use Linux on the daily.

The Question:
I want to install bunsen on a new Samsung SSD I am putting into an older netbook. I went to the live run (since the drive isn't partitioned or formatted), & opened Gparted. I was looking for ext4, but the list was as follows:

aix
amiga
bsd  (sounds ominous)
dvh
gpt
mac
msdos
pc98
sun
loop

I have no idea what I'm looking at here. So a forked n00b question: What do I want to choose (bunsen will be the only OS on this device), & what is the best format (ext4? something else?) for my SSD?

I have had good experiences with btrfs on a Kingston V300

However, that filesystem is not fully developed and running the latest kernel version possible is recommended.

If this is a "production" machine (ie, for work or something equally important), stick to good 'ol ext4 or maybe XFS (used by NASA's advanced supercomputing department and noticeably faster than ext4).

In respect of your gparted problem, you are looking at the "Partition Type" list rather than the "Filesystem Type"

I recommend using Amiga "GPT"

Aha. Thank you! I really wanted to click GPT because it looked familiar, but that would violate "make sure you're right, then go ahead".
