[SOLVED] Change terminal size/geometry

Hi all. I've been searching for the last hour or so and can't find an answer that works.

If like to change the terminal size that launches because it's very big.

I've tried adding "--geometry=..." to lxterminal.conf and the .desktop file in share/applications.

Am I an idiot?

Re: [SOLVED] Change terminal size/geometry

In ~/.config/lxterminal/lxterminal.conf the terminal size depends on the number of rows and columns. The defaults are:

geometry_columns=80
geometry_rows=24

Re: [SOLVED] Change terminal size/geometry

Hiya, thanks. I've edited that, too, and it still keeps opening up really large. Does it matter if I'm starting it from the icon on tint2 or from the BL right click menu? No matter how I open it, it's huge lol.

Do I need to reload something after editing it? I've even tried rebooting, nothing.

Re: [SOLVED] Change terminal size/geometry

You can also r-click the terminal and look at Preferences.  Same setting in there? Font size?

Is there an entry for it in the Applications section in bl-rc.xml, which is over-riding the geometry?

If you run the command directly is it still the wrong size?

lxterminal

If all else fails you can choose another terminal and set it as the x-terminal-emulator

Re: [SOLVED] Change terminal size/geometry

It appears I am an idiot. The terminal that was launching was x-terminal-emulator, not lxterminal. I wonder why my default was different.

x-terminal-emulator is the generic term used for whatever terminal application you have set as the default.
Try:

galternatives

in a terminal or from the menu where applicable to see a list of all the different defaults for various items, and change them if allowed. Probably, /usr/bin/lxterminal is already the default?  If so, right-clicking in the terminal window, click on 'preferences' and then 'display' will allow you to change the size as damo has suggested.

Re: [SOLVED] Change terminal size/geometry

"urxvt" was the default. I had to install lxterminal.

I installed bunsenlabs about a year ago so maybe that's why?

Ha! Yeah something changed over the course of the year:)  Just installed Lithium in Virtualbox and it looks like the default points to lxterminal (/usr/share/man/man1/lxterminal).  I'm a fan of urxvt as well:)

It looks like going to: menu -> edit debian alternatives, will open galternatives, with the entry below that providing further information as well. -> (About Bunsen Alternatives).

In any event, glad you got it sorted.  Please edit your opening post with [SOLVED] in front of the title if you are good to go.
