I've only played with VBox and VMWare, but have always been interested in KVM/QEMU. It sounds kinda logical that a direct kernel-based virtualization would be performancewise superior to any solution that provides it via a separate application running on top of the OS. I'd also imagine it's a tad more demanding for the user :-)
