GIMP constantly crashes

Hi everyone:

So, I only recently updated to lithium bunsenlabs. Before this upgrade, I have been use the waldroff version of bunsenlabs for at least 3 or 4 years or maybe longer.

With the previous version of bunselabs, I never had the issue of GIMPS crashing.

After this upgrade, however, GIMP constantly crashes. I would be editting a picture and then suddenly the thing just crashes.

Does anyone know what is causing this issue?

Re: GIMP constantly crashes

Start GIMP from the commandline: any errors or crash messages should appear in the terminal, There are also debug command switches.

gimp --help

Re: GIMP constantly crashes

I think that is a problem with a gtk library.
I also have problems with Gimp on Bunsenlabs but my problem was with gmic.

In your first post the command returns a error with a specific plugin, maybe if you remove the plugin manually on the plugin folder of Gimp It can start work.

Your plugin folder of Gimp is →
~ /.config/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins/

Also try to use other theme instead of BL-Fever_Room.

I think that the problem is with a requirement of gtk 2.0

Re: GIMP constantly crashes

Have you tried using a different gtk theme, as suggested earlier?

If you are running Buster; yes.
I'm on Bullseye. "gimp -v", gives me version 2.10.22.
"dpkg -l | grep gimp", gives me 2.10.22-4, which is latest for bullseye. See: https://packages.debian.org/search?keyw … ection=all.

Re: GIMP constantly crashes

@rbh should I update to the 22nd version? And if I need to, do you know how?

I do not think that would solve your problem...
No harm in trying though. You have to upgrade to Bullseye, then gimp also will be upgraded.

Before that: have you tried change theme?
Have you tried rename your ~/.config/GIMP/2.10/ to start all over if there is some corruption in your profile?

Krita maybeis an suitable replacement until you have got gimp working ok.

Are you sole user on the pc? Test create a new user who starts gimp. Same problem?

I suspect the issue to have something to do with this.
You might have some old, now long incompatible plugins still installed.

But as a very first troubleshooting measure, rename ~/.config/GIMP to ~/.config/GIMP.not to start with a fresh profile.
Does it help? I suspect not, judging from your error messages.

Then show us

dpkg -l | grep -i gimp

Give to COVAX! Here or here. (explanation)
