Lenovo thinkpad x220 - mouse pad sloppy /wrong

Hi,

the mouse pad is really troublesome:
-Its sometimes doing some micro-vortex
-moving constantly
-consider two fingers are pressed (most of the time)

Iam not sure even if the hardware aspect is fine, since I just got it second hand.
But I actually believe it was fine, when the pre owner had elementary os running.

This Lenovo thinkpad x220 actually has a red joy-dot in the center of the keyboard which is as well activated at the same time...
Maybe BL has trouble to manage more than one input?¿  (just an idea)

Many thanks in advance!

I have an x230 with no such problem. I feel there could be more precision but that is maybe me not being good at using pads.

So both mouse pads work simultaneously without problems?

Re: Lenovo thinkpad x220 - mouse pad sloppy /wrong

I investigated a bit further:
Whenever I boot, everything is normal at first, the mouse/touchpad works normal. Only when I click the bottom right mouse click (touchpad), the pointer will start going weird.
So I just don't use it, it (thinkpad x220) has additional mouse click buttons right on top of the touchpad, which i will use instead.
Still I find it peculiar that it would not just be jumping without me initially pressing that button every time after boot...
EDIT: there actually are some very very slight motions of the pointer even though i ddnt press the cursed button, so iam actually certain, that it must be some dirt or wear.

Many thanks for your patience; this is something like solved smile

Both mouse pads?

I have one mouse pad and that red pointer knob in the middle of the keyboard. Both work simultaneously.

Re: Lenovo thinkpad x220 - mouse pad sloppy /wrong

I have here a Lenovo ThinkPad T500. Not one Linux I ran on it (and, there were many of them) had trouble recognizing this input device.

This is under lithium:

unklar@T500:~$ grep -B 5 mouse /proc/bus/input/devices
I: Bus=0003 Vendor=046d Product=c52f Version=0111
N: Name="Logitech USB Receiver"
P: Phys=usb-0000:00:1d.0-2/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb6/6-2/6-2:1.0/0003:046D:C52F.0001/input/input3
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse0 event1
--
I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0007 Version=01b1
N: Name="SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input2
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse1 event3
--
I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=000a Version=0000
N: Name="TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint"
P: Phys=synaptics-pt/serio0/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/serio2/input/input7
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse2 event4

As you can see, there are three "mice" hanging from the computer. On the software side, the touchpad could be switched off.  smile
