internet speed

i am new, first installed this distro, and one of the things i first test is geekbench4 and internet speed. i am in a home with mixed users, mac OS, WINDOWS, and Linux.  speed test on windows and mac os showing results around 100mbs download speed, but with linux i am only getting average of 30mbs/sec.   I dont know where to start, all the pc are connected wirelessly at the same modem/router.  most of our devices are old something like 5 years old or more. although the performance of my LENOVO G560, 4gb ram i3 cpu works faster than my macbookpro 2011 with 16gb ram.  i loving this bunsenlabs.

Geekbench4 is not in debian repo. Primate Labs, has made an deb for Ubuntu 14 and later. Maybe it is not so reliable on Debian?
Speedtest-cli, might be more reliable. It is also available for Mac and Windows: https://www.speedtest.net/apps/cli

It might be good to first test your lan. Iperf3, can test lan speed. Is available in Debian repos and from https://iperf.fr/iperf-download.php for Windows, MacOS, Android etc.
You can start it in server or client mode. You can test an windows pc, then boot live Debian/Bl, install iperf3 and measure again. It might be that linux drivers are not as fast as the proprietry drivers for windos.
Iperf3, can also measure against public servers, but at least for some years ago, it was hard to find an server that was available.

Do you have any Linux certified hardware? If not, you can buy USB wifi dongles for Linux

But 30Mb/s, is not that bad...

Re: internet speed

My opinion, backed by a few threads across various forums: This is all Voodoo.

Make a dozen tests in identical conditions, write down all numbers, calculate the average, and only then compare.
And don't use either speedtest-cli or nerdbench, just download a large file from a reliable (one that doesn't cut you off after repeated attempts, one that doesn't throttle bandwidth) server.

Re: internet speed

If you want to diagnose problem with connecions, you must first diagnose your lan.
You can control the situation on your lan.
If you copy a big file or use programs like iperf3, does not matter. But,  iperf3, is easier to use. It does the speed counting for you.

Measuring internet connections, is somneting you do not have control over. If you download a big file, you do not know what linmits the server applies, how burdend from other clients it is. A new measurement after some minutes, can give other figures, because the conditions outside your lan has changed.

So, the figures you get for an internet connection is very rough. They can be used for hints of connection health..
