RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver help [SOLVED]

I just bought some USB wireless adapter and the actual version of Debian in  Lithium does not support " out of the box" the USB WiFI Adapter.

I am not that good with driver installation.

I want to install both RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver (as I don't know which one my card use, both folder are on a CD-ROM they provided with " few instruction" LOL

Someone can guide me on making that NIC USB WiressLess Card works ? And the the make, make install stuff ?  Is there a way to access more recent driver "from debian" ?

Tks...
I bought that card as I changed my router to be faster (to take benefit of the fast internet link I have) and I had old network card only.... The new uSB one is 802.11 ac

Re: RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver help [SOLVED]

If the drivers are on a supplied disc, then it is highly unlikely they are linux drivers!

Do you have the package firmware-realtek installed?

It is often less hassle to just ignore Realtek and get an adaptor that works OOTB - they are pretty cheap after all.

Re: RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver help [SOLVED]

I checked ans yes, firmware-realtek is installed.
I had other "not very expensive" USB WiFI adaptor that were detected easily but not the new 802.11 ac... THat why I ordered this one.

I will may be order another one...

Re: RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver help [SOLVED]

I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet.

Firstly, I'd disregard any files & instructions that came with the device, and instead look it up on debian wiki.
Actyually, stop.
First we need to find out which card you actually use.
Please provide the information requested here.
Also add the output of

sudo lsusb

Re: RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver help [SOLVED]

I inserted the usb stick on a Window PC I have and it shows at RTL:8811CU on the Window PC

My understanding is that 3 of my 4  PC do not recognise the USB WiFi Stick...

If we do rfkill list and it doesn't show up, it's a hardware problem ?

Re: RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver help [SOLVED]

Are there actually Linux drivers on that CD? Usually there will be a Linux folder with the drivers and a Readme or Install file.

Realtek doesn't appear to support it directly.

If you search "how to install RTL8812BU/RTL8812CU drivers linux" it appears to be doable, but you will need to clone a git repository and follow those install instructions.

You must unlearn what you have learned.

Re: RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver help [SOLVED]

Tks PackRat

Yes there is a Linux Folder and but the install.sh script fail.

About using " some stranger" git repo to get the driver, I'm always stressed to install something on my PC that would compromise it...

it's suppose to be those drivers : http://suo.im/61h2a9

https://i.imgur.com/K8kWwzJ.png  for this card

biut if this command return nothing, I was wondering if I am loosing my time with the driver part of the equation

Re: RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver help [SOLVED]

yoda,

sudo lsusb -vd 0bda:c811

I believe will show you that youe USB wifi adapter is recognised by Linux.
Now what we want is to make sure which device you actually have in there, as you said: "RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU". So it should be one of those.
If you look at this quick search, it appears that on Linux these devices are not supprted by the same driver.

Re: RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver help [SOLVED]

In windows, if the driver is not installed, we still see a device in the Device Manager

In Linux, if the driver is not installed, I understand the device can't work, but, shouldn't Linus list the device ?

I was able to make the device work on my wife (Windows) computer, windows,,, I will probably wait for the 2nd adapter I also ordered ( TP-Link) and get monday, if it's working, I'll may be forget about this one, working on Linux... " BUT STILL"' would like to understand if Linux should be able to at least list it... ( 2 Bunsen PC I have do not list it, one Linux Mint PC I have, do not list it / see it).

Tks ohnonot and damo !

Re: RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver help [SOLVED]

OK I just received my 2nd USB WiFi adapter.
This one, a TP-Link

I found this on the net

sudo apt install git dkms
git clone https://github.com/aircrack-ng/rtl8812au.git      driver is from that group https://aircrack-ng.org/index.html
cd rtl8812au
sudo ./dkms-install.sh

and this last USB WiFI Adapter is now working very well ( 210 Mbps).

But, as I found this driver here https://askubuntu.com/questions/1185952 … untu-19-10  I can't know / be sure it's as safe as if I took it from Debian directly....

Any comments ?

As 20 people "upvoted" that link on Ubuntu, would you consider this driver " safe" ??

The other adapter (realtek) is now working on my Wife PC and the new one I just received, on BL

Re: RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver help [SOLVED]

I'm not sure any of my topics from last year may be of use to you as I was having issues using USB wi-fi adapters (with RTL chipsets) in BunsenLabs.
I also managed to finally get it to work but I think I had to resort to using a custom driver package from GitHub IIRC.

Have a look through these:

Holy cannoli, it doesn't say which realtek device it is!
OK, let's search the web instead - there's an interesting askubuntu article. According to that you need the rtl8821CU driver.
Scanning the debian wiki, there seems to be no support for that. So the instructions in the accepted answer are most likely what you want.

Re: RTL8812BU and RTL8811CU driver help [SOLVED]

I don,t want to discourage you but I moved that USB WiFi adapter to my other PC (Windows) for my wife

And started using a TP-Link Wi-Fi Adapter on  my BL PC

So everything is ok now.

But I didn't learned a lot with all your answers !!! I do appreciate a lot...
