[SOLVED] cp and file manager

Salut,

when I insert an USB device on a lenovo v320 + BL a file graphical file manager is launched; the USB is mounted automati ..(z.B. on /media/xxx/YYYYY/); a cp command in a terminal (z.B. cp x.mp4 /media/xxx/YYYYY/), the process is infinite and is not killable
(kill -9 <n>).

A bug or a fitcher ?

I have only found "fitcher" when mining: https://www.wordnik.com/words/fitcher...

I personaly do not like the automount function, I disable it in the file manager.

If you use it, automounted partisons is available in /media/username/partition-label or partion-UUID.

Can you copy any file to the usb-partion? Is only big mediafiles that hang?
What filesystem do the usb-disk has and is it healthy? Have you done filescheck?
What filepermission is the partition mounted with?
Is there any differense if you copy the file as root, and kill the process as root?

Command: "z.B. cp x.mp4 /media/xxx/YYYYY/", seems curious...

What is the exact command?

Re: [SOLVED] cp and file manager

Automount is starting a file copy operation after mounting the USB? That should not happen unless you configured it so.

Re: [SOLVED] cp and file manager

Thanks.

The issue persists and is due to automounting.

Is it possible to delete automounting?

So, if you manually unmount the usb-disk and manualy mount it, then it is ok to copy big oŕ small files to the stick, It is only then you automount it, the copy-opereration hangs.
It sounds very odd. I suspect, you have not examined the situation enough, not even looked in to my questions.

No. But, as I wrote, you can disable automount in the filemanager. If you can't find the setting, just open a terminal and give the command "thunar-volman-settings", as a regular user.

Btw, package pmount enables to mount removable devices as normal user.

Re: [SOLVED] cp and file manager

In the thunar preferences I disabled all the settings of the removable devices and now it seems to be ok.

I installed pmount (and so also pumount): it is perfect.

Thanks rbh and ohnonot !
