Hello,
I have a cheapo Eyoyo extra monitor plugged into my laptop. I used the display editor from the preferences menu to set it up so that the display is extended to my right (just like the physical monitor). It works great except for two strange behaviors (not deal killers, but weird).
1) Things do not disappear as they should, like the screen is not refreshing. For instance, the (beloved) right click menu will just stay open as many instances as I start. They are just images, though. Same thing if I mouse over the time to get the date. It just stays up.
2) Even though the laptop monitor is set to primary, when I rouse the laptop from sleep or from a cold boot, the login screen is on the monitor to the right.
Any ideas?
Best,
Matt

1) tried simply restarting the GUI, or rebooting? Does the problem go away when you set a background image for that monitor?
2) you probably need to tell lightdm (which runs the screen locker afaiu), too, which is the primary monitor. Maybe you should put these settings somewhere under /etc/X11 and not your $HOME.

Thanks for the ideas. Rebooting does not help, but I will try to work with the screen locker and see if that helps.

I have had a similar issue for as long as I can remember, but just learned to work around it.
On some of my laptops, if both the primary (laptop screen) and secondary displays are connected upon startup, when lightdm loads, the main login input box is on the second (HDMI) display. However, if the secondary display is connected after lightdm has launched, the login will remain on the primary display, even though the desktop will be extended to the second desktop to show it's ready.
Not such a huge issue, except when one of the HDMI connected displays is on the other side of a large room.
