[Lithium - Helium] Unspecified ACPI/Graphics problem

I'll try to explain this to the best of my abilities.

When I lock the screen, or it locks itself, or laptop is suspended, or its lid closes, everything works as expected. I do not use hibernate at all. NVMe is encrypted and it's a disk install, not a vbox.

and neofetch if it gives you anything else that above doesn't.

What happens is - when I open the lid, or simply hit any key the screen flickers the content of the screen that was there before locking, then goes black, then shows the login screen. Then I can login and I see exactly same content that flickered. I don't work on anything particularly opsec, don't browse anything that would make me ashamed but the fact is that no other distro I tried had this issue.

Now, I have had that issue on Helium as well but I just shrugged it as I wasn't taking my laptop out at all and now I take it with me to work.

I am happy to record a quick video or give you more details, just let me know what you need.

Thanks!

I don't have patience or skill to dig deep enough every time system breaks itself or when I break something because of lack of patience and skill.

Re: [Lithium - Helium] Unspecified ACPI/Graphics problem

As a working title I suggest "Unspecified ACPI/Graphics problem".
I currently don't have a barebones BL install, but I have almost the same intel GPU (530)...

Please remove any "quiet" or "splash" options from your grub.cfg and see if you get any ACPI errors during boot (or any errors at all). I believe you can also look at them later with

dmesg|less

Same for Xorg errors, found in /var/log/Xorg.0.log for the current session.
And that lspci command again but like this:

lspci -k | grep -A5 VGA

BL quote proposals to this thread please.

I don't have patience or skill to dig deep enough every time system breaks itself or when I break something because of lack of patience and skill.

Re: [Lithium - Helium] Unspecified ACPI/Graphics problem

Nothing jumps out at me.
I think you might want to grep dmesg case-insensitively for error, fail etc.

Also look at the journal.

Did the problem occur during this boot?
If yes:

journalctl -b

If not:

journalctl

And I meant: YOU look at it. It's going to be a lot to sift through, don't just dump it on us.

I know, I'm sorry, did it at work and then felt bad afterwards. Thanks for the replies though.  cool

journalctl - I believe separated text is pointing towards the issue? I'll look it up.

alright, googled the issue about lxde flashing screen content upon waking from suspend and it returned quite few results. Seems that power management on variety of hardware in conjunction with various DEs does not give enough time for the session lock to perform properly. Found a solution which involves a short script to be placed in /lib/systemd/system-sleep/ that delays the sleep by 2 seconds.

#!/bin/sh
case $1 in
        pre)
                /bin/sleep 2
        ;;
esac

Tested it few times and so far it works.

Re: [Lithium - Helium] Unspecified ACPI/Graphics problem

^ Glad you found a workaround!

I didn't notice it's a thinkpad; you can always have a look at https://www.thinkwiki.org/ or subscribe to their mailing list.

Generally speaking, I would not put things in /lib/systemd but try to figure out where and how they belong under /etc/systemd.
You never know what happens after a systemd update. It being a separate script you're probably good, but in /etc/systemd you're 100% good.

As a working title I suggest "Unspecified ACPI/Graphics problem".

I'm sorry that you changed the thread title because of me making such a silly comment; it wasn't meant literally, just some rant. FWIW: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_title
