Suggestion - fbxkb (en de fr)

Bunsenlabs is very cool and similar to Cruchbang Linux. But in Cruchbang Linux i can switch on the top right side between the languages EN, DE and FR with fbxkb. On Live-CDs i do not want to install fbxkb and/or set all manually perhaps with "setxkbmap -layout de" and what about the console?

Please insert a GUI-keyboard-switcher like fbxkb in the next version. Thank you.

Re: Suggestion - fbxkb (en de fr)

Hey uname, welcome and thanks for the feedback!

The RC1 ISOs actually have fbxkb included, it just hasn't been added to the ~/.config/openbox/autostart file because there's a bug in the jessie version that gives a double question mark instead of the flag symbol for some countries.

If you want to have language options every time with a Live USB, I would recommended setting up that USB with persistence as described here...

Cheers!

Please check fbxkb in openbox-autostart again for next release.

fbxkb

It's busted OOTB, so we're leaving it up to the user to add and configure it.

There's also the newer input method fcitx.

You can set your keyboard configuration system-wide in /etc/default/keyboard if you don't need frequent changes.

Re: Suggestion - fbxkb (en de fr)

I do not want to install 16 MB / installed 53 MB (ibus) oder 25 MB / installed 106 MB (fcitx) on a live cd. Then i can remember the command

setxkbmap -layout de

But for linux newbies or tester with german or french keyboard it is no good idea. On Crunchbang there was "fbxkb". It is installed on bunsenLabs, too. Why do not start it on live-system-boot-default from /home/user/.config/openbox/autostart and show the switcher?

As I stated earlier, it seems broken in jessie. We tested it, and some countries had ?? instead of the flag (US on my system, for example). I think there was another issue, can't remember. Install it on your system and see, I'll do the same again and post back when I have time.
