Setting up a Hotspot - connecting devices stuck at IP configuration

Happy Easter!
I just set up a Hotspot (i believe).
I went to edit connections in my network manager and chose:
wifi->mode:hotspot-> and then named the connection and SSID.
I chose a device and left Band on automatic; cloned MAC adress is empty.
The security is set to WPA/WPA2 Personal and has a password now.
In IPv4 the only thing set is method: shared to other computers.
...with geany then i opened the document of that new network and i noticed that that the mode is already set to 'ap'.

My devices(smartphones) can see this network but get eternaly stuck at IP-Configuration later yielding IP-configuration-failure....

Maybe someone knows which step i missed or did wrong?!

Many thanks in advance!

Re: Setting up a Hotspot - connecting devices stuck at IP configuration

My guess it needs a DHCP server for the device to get an IP from the hotspot.

Did you try to restart your PC after creating the hotspot?

that's my guess too because it was the solution to a very similar wifi problem just yesterday.
in my case it was the router (i had myself disabled dhcp ages ago and then forgotten about it).
so, check if whatever software you're using to create the hotspot, also configures dhcp to work on it.

Would be nice even if the software can enable a temporary DHCP server (usually enabled by ticking a checkbox). If your router has DHCP server, maybe enable it temporarily if needed depending on the use case.
