OK, it's time to get some ideas from you guys for...
Openbox & GTK theme
Wallpaper
Lightdm theme
Grub theme
Tint2
Conky
dmenu
Anything else...
The new Buster artwork is https://wiki.debian.org/DebianArt/Theme … ePrototype, (although some of us prefer eg Moonlight!). These could be a good reference point for colour palettes and styles.
Maybe the lithium flame colour could be incorporated for highlights, active items etc? Some examples here and here
If you want to suggest GTK themes and Icons then make sure they are as universal as possible, and preferably are being maintained.
Remember - we won't please everyone, but sane and pleasing defaults should be the aim. An idea is to ship a bunch of BLOBs so you can choose coherent desktop themes with a couple of clicks
To kick it off, here is a go at a conky, tint2 and wallpaper (using the lithium emission spectrum):

Stylized atomic model of Lithium atom embedded in the wallpaper like the flame somewhere unobtrusive?
Or likewise unobtrusive details from periodic table?
Somesuch as an easter egg somewhere?
I'm just tossing ideas in the air.. I expect them to pretty much get blown away.

Not at all - a couple of them occurred to me as well.

Agreed, and it looks great with Arc-Dark themes and Paper-Bunsen icons. Maybe tweak the highlight/active color.

BL-Moonlight, with a lithium coloration.
(NB The jpg banding is accentuated in this lo-res image, but some is also present in the Debian original)

Just my opinion, but I don't see it as essential to include the red/pink flame colour in the artwork. Maybe we could have a more grey/silver theme (the colour of lithium metal).
I found this image on Wikipedia which is of a mineral with a high lithium content, I think it could be turned into a good wallpaper: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spodumene … a59abg.jpg

^ i think they are going for the colour lithium burns at temp or some such?

No it's not essential, just an idea for distinguishing the Lithium release. We can then match conkys, tint2s, WM themes etc. with a consistent highlight colour. Grey/Silver is fine, but we had that in all previous CB/BL releases as well.

Yes, please. It would distinguish new release from earlier ones. I like especially what you did with GTK here.
For me, defaults don't matter really, because first thing to do after fresh istallation is to tinker them away and replace all shades of colour with dull weary flat gray. But it's nice to look at something fresh and new just a few minutes before I do that.

@all:
Think what is needed for a default background, when you have a default tint2 and conky showing: the background shouldn't interfere or overwhelm them. There are also matching grub and lightdm backgrounds to consider.
And if a user has a different screen resolution, the top and bottom may be lost if the wallpaper is zoomed by nitrogen.

Nota bene (take a good note/note well).

from what I can tell the display ratio of 16:9 seems most common these days. Cant seem to find a site that I can trust for statistics like that though, but knowing these things is probably useful for themers and designers etc.
