Just to confirm: "Type to search" isn't a menu item, it's just a bit of information, right? It doesn't have to be clicked or selected in any way?
Or wrong?
Anyway, @malm that last screenshot looked fine to me.

...elevator in the Brain Hotel, broken down but just as well...
( a boring Japan blog (currently paused), now on Bluesky, there's also some GitStuff )

@rbh, @johnraff
Just to confirm, the “Type ti Search” is a widget, rather than a menu item. It can’t be selected, so its position is irrelevant other than from an aesthetic perspective.
^I’ll prepare a commit for the latest.

Off topic: the progress of jgmenu is absolutely amazing. I remember seeing it the first time on github and trying it out. It already seemed a little gem at the time, with its small footprint yet excellent potential for customization. More than that, it had the right knobs in the right places, not burdening the users with trivial stuff but still giving them a lot of power.
I'm very happy to see that it has found its place in BL. I am also impressed about the communication I saw on this thread: constructive feedback, friendly discussions, creativity. This is how open source should be. Well done everyone!

@o9000, agreed, and thanks for the feedback! I was just reading a PM from a long-time forum member (going back to #!, witness to The End, added his input to the transition, has been posting scrots, artwork, has helped other users, etc..) and he said the same thing. The work malm has done, misko has been on fire in helping him lately, I and others have added suggestions that have been adopted... it's really coming together. It's our main focus ATM before we release lithium, we want to have our new features (jgmenu that autothemes to the openbox theme, yad bl-exit that again adapts the desktop theme, separate BunsenLabs and Openbox sessions, a more WM independent autostart file... there's more, but I should close this parenthesis and finish my sentence) tested and stable first.
Thanks for being a forum member and contributor, we love tint2!
I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

I called it a static menu item, or a menu header. It can't be selected, it's just a text entry. ATM, it's removal leaves a blank top-margin in the menu, setting the margin to 0 to match the other margins removes the space.
I agree with @john, that looks lovely. @malm, +1 to commit, thanks for considering my suggestion, I like your solution. The search icon rocks.

Thanks for writing it out. Been thinking the same many times.

I wonder, if there is any trick to include pipe-menu-generated-stuff into that 'search'? (Some sort of cache perhaps?)

@o9000 - good to hear from you!
@hhh, @johnraff, others - I've been away, and now can't remember how I did the last scrot for the "Type to Search" widget. I now only seem to be able to manage the following with "Sans": ⚲⌕ᰄ?
Grateful for any help. I think we want the magnifying glass monochromatic really.
@brex - we currently can't search for items in pipe-menus. This would fall into the 'new feature' category... and I suspect it could get quite complicated.

^ Just to clarify look of unicode 'search' icons

^ Thanks @misko_2083, that helps a lot. I didn't know about the U+FE0E text presentation selector.
