Finally got around to sealing some 12V LED light strips in some tubing last weekend; got them tied to my bike fork and luggage rack for better visibility (as in visible to motorists). Definitely bright enough with a 9V PP3 battery; will eventually be powered by a 9.6V battery of 8 AA NiMH cells. Pics tomorrow.

^ How long will the batteries last with those LED lights?

@damo: I actually got the idea from the LED halos on newer model cars, but whatever works for you; I think it's closer in spirit to the lights on the tandem bike in the MiB films. The typical mass-produced bicycle lights are basically a flashlight headlight and a tiny cluster of red LEDs for a taillight. A forward-facing flashlight isn't very visible to a car approaching from a cross street; add to this the fact that my bike's paint is roughly the same color as asphalt, a driver would be justified in saying that he didn't see me until it was too late. I'd already put some retroreflective tape on my downtube, but that won't catch a car's headlights until I'm more or less in front of it, hence the additional active illumination.
@Sector11: Well, at 9V, they have a current draw of about 12mA per segment, and I have 10 segments. Don't know the current capacity of a typical 9V alkaline PP3, but the AA cells claim 2300mAH, so...about 19 hours, but I typically use them less than 2 hours a day and plan to recharge them every weekend. (Your homework assignment is to tell me what additional information you'd need to calculate the total power dissipation power dissipated by each LED. ]:D ) There's even plenty of current to spare for a pair of "tactical" flashlights (I'm sure you've seen them; they take a C-sized cartridge of 3 AAA cells) in series.

ME! Maths?
1+1 = 10 (OK that's real!)
2+2 = 22
3*3 = 333
A²+B² = ABCABC
I do like what you are doing though. done with 'taste' it would look nice and might save your life - look good or not!

Funny, I just got finished up with a side project. I installed Arch on a bunch of USB 3.0 drives, as well as my preferred stats software R, openmpi, openssh, and a few other goodies and turned them into a portable computer cluster. I wrote the whole setup into a script so that I can add new nodes at will, just need the USB drive and some hardware to run it on. The host names for all the installations are borg0 - borgX, hehe.
Now I can book the computer lab at the University, boot all the computers from the USB drives, SSH into the master node, and run maximum likelihood optimizations across 120 cores from the comfort of my laptop anywhere on the campus. Projects that would normally take a week to compute are done in a hour and a half. I'm super happy about it.

I'm updating all my GitHub projects. Some are years old and I've learned a lot since; I want to reflect that in my code quality. Some I don't feel like maintaing I just mark as OBSOLETE, but others I plan to finish.
My current project is Phosphorus (Crunchbang forums topic). I just finished implementing a GNOME backend, so you can actually use it now to change wallpapers if you're using GNOME (or anything using the GNOME stack, such as Budgie Desktop. Not sure about Cinnamon.)

Taking a breaking from Linux Scripting practice and practicing for my Alcatel-Lucent NRS I exam. Using a virtual environment of the 7750 Router Operating system... Sort of a weird bizzaro version of Cisco's iOS.

^ That's a lot more elaborate than anything that's going on my bike!
Pics will be delayed a bit. Camera battery needed charging, and as you can tell from this, the weather isn't exactly camera-friendly this morning. At least I know now that the lights are well sealed against the weather.

Excuses schmexcuses!! People in Sydney went through the end of the world a few days ago and still got pics through. Now get to it. Ponycycle pics this time tomorrow, or I'll stomp on a flower or something!!
I was at mum's place earlier today, and she (sorta) gave me an ultimatum - clear all my records from my old room or she's gonna give em away. So yeah, this predicament is what I'm currently working on, and I seriously have no idea how to solve it.
That's just one corner of the room*, btw. There's nothing but crates of records all around the space. I don't have any room to store all of them in my own place, don't want to sell them (some are priceless), and there's no way in hell I'll let her give em away.
* ..and no, that fugly-arse carpet ain't mine - mum just chucked it in the room, to annoy me probably.

That's the last resort. I did employ a facility of that sort many years ago when I was working nights and traveling about. They're rather pricey where I live. Whatever I decide, there's still the matter of finding the time to rent a van in order to transport the records across the border (mum lives the neighbouring country) since my car boot is nowhere near big enough to haul em all in a single trip, plus having to answer all sorts of banal questions from the [redacted by mod] at customs. My immediate problem is downsizing the collection - a hard ask for someone as fickle as myself. Also trying to bargain with mum. I already handle her utility and maintenance bills, so it's not like she can complain about the electricity costs from the ventilation/dehumidifying system I installed in the room, which really don't add much anyway. I wager her Vogon kitchen thingamajigs consume more electricity. But you know mother's right? They'll complain regardless.

With all respect and admiration for the intrepid photographers who captured those images, I think only one was from inside the edge of the storm front. I know there are cameras designed to cope with inclement weather; I'm fairly certain my little Canon PowerShot isn't one of them.

Oh, the horror! ]:D
How about some Pony Bikes to tide you over until I get some night shots? (EDIT: Don't worry, there aren't any cartoon ponies there; it's a bespoke bicycle maker in Melbourne.)

Please bear in mind that inferior camera optics are inferior, hence the light blooming. The last photo in the series I took with the flash to show what a driver might see if I were in front of his headlights.
I told postimage not to scale my images, but its "direct link" links are scaled. Whatever; I think the scaling actually helps mitigate the graininess of the images.
Totally ghetto, but it's a good start at getting the job done. Note the reflections of the fork lights on the front spokes; these create a nice spinning effect while riding. Completely unintentional, just a "happy little accident", as Bob Ross might say.
