Restrict mobile data usage

Hey there,

are there some softwares or commands to reduce the drainage of mobile data (tethering).
E.g. for android i have a browser that can disable loading pictures.
Some tools regarding a display of data flow and reduction methods would be great.

Is there an option for dont-load-images for a typical linux browser like slimjet?

Maybe some interface for my machine to document data flow?
