Re: Show us your conky

Over several days, I am testing the 12.2, with admitted mixed feelings.
My test machines are
-siduction-plasma5.24 (Install 2020-06-08) with the repo's N.Preining + Debian + siduction
-siduction-plasma5.24 (Install 2017-02-25) with the repo's Debian + siduction
-[beryllium] (Install 2021-02-21)

I must say that with the release of 12.2. plasma5.24 came at the same time and from then on not a single Conky was started from the autostart. Also from the terminal it didn't work at the beginning. Nowhere is there information in KDE until today, why this was so.
There are users who helped me practically only by "trial + error" that this is (hopefully) okay today. (The magic word) The magic letter in the Conky start command is the -q (so, the 'silent' execution).

Well, my stand so far on [beryllium]:
It remains a legend that 12.2 ALWAYS starts syntax1.9. This is not the case.

What does work:
-Alt+left/right hold move / resize the window = ok
-RAM specification = ok
-speed specification = ok
-round corners = ok
-real transparency = ok

Tinkering remains calling multiple lua scripts, which didn't work in most cases. I'm "practicing" here with @indian and @manuell909's ideas to move this out of the config file. But, eh, all this is no longer to be expected of a normal user!   ]:D

...so, conky12.2 does not pull me further from the chair!

My friend, you really do not miss anything!   big_smile

Are you saying conky v12.9 does or does not start conky v1.9 syntax?

plasma5.24 and not even conky v1.9 starts?
- unless you use the -q switch?

I never understood that -q switch

       -q | --quiet
Run Conky in 'quiet mode' (ie. no output)

No output - no conky.

smile sorry, then my english did not express that correctly.
If you look from conky_V1.10 to now to 1.12.2. this in the terminal, then it says:

 * old configuration syntax

This is a legend for me because it is not true. No matter if they had this in the versions 'in or not, the version 1.12.2 also does not start every conky in syntax 1.9
--
For plasma5.24 I have to elaborate further
KDE has always been a bit "different" in the way it displays the desktop. Remember @Crinos512, a lover of KDE. What contortions we did in KDE3 and partly in KDE4 with feh to conjure up the Conky on the screen?
The difficulties with plasma5.24 gave me again this memory.

The installation with the repo's of Norbert Preining is always ahead of Debian. He puts his essential plasma packages on openSuse for the KDE-Debian_users. He is already branded 2x on Debian and had thrown everything away in January to switch to Arch.
His large following moved him to continue providing the packages on openSuse anyway.
When Debian comes with its Plasma packages then Preining's are exchanged. Then him again etc. etc.
End.  big_smile

This siduction-plasma-desktop refused not only the autostart of Conky1.12.2, here is also no moving etc. with Alt+usw... is possible.

The siduction-plasma-desktop without the repo's of Preining has also the problem autostart, but here I can move/enlarge the Conky's.

 -q | --quiet
Run Conky in 'quiet mode' (ie. no output)--> in Terminal

No output - no conky Terminal.

autostart before

conky -c /home/unklar/.conkyrc &

autostart now in plasma

conky -q -c /home/unklar/.conkyrc &

Re: Show us your conky

So conky autostarts normally once you add the -q switch to the commandline for conky in the autostart for your DE?

Perhaps this change should be noted on Siduction forum as well. This new conky version is in MX Testing repo for MX21 I noticed.

It is available in their testrepo if you want to try it on Lithium

I've tested this and there's a bug in the conky manager when used with the new conky version. You now need the -q switch in order for conky to autostart, and the desktop file for conky in Autostart in KDE that calls something called conky-startup.sh in $HOME/.conky folder and that script has a line like:

conky -c "$HOME/.conky/MX-CoreBlue/conkyrc2core" &

Editing this script to add the -q will work but then the current conky becomes deselected in the conky manager. Re-selecting the desired conky replaces this script with a new one and then the -q switch is gone.

To start a conky I found I have to use the conky-toggle utility to get it started for the session.

Perhaps I might file a bug for the conky manager at least for Conky 1.12.2.

^You should note that my tests refer to KDE-Plasma5.24. For this, the explanation with the -q switch for @Sector11's request.

And, yes, this is mentioned in the siduction forum.
I can't apply the behavior of 1.12.2 to ALL desktop's
because also in the past (several years ago) the autostart of KDE was broken. This manifested itself in the fact that the Conky's were only started when the script "Before login" was executed on the KDE desktop.

Today it is similar, except that these choices "Before login"; "With login" and "After login" no longer exist.
As I wrote in the siduction forum, sometime in plasma5.23(!) the change of the autostart of KDE has already taken place.
I noticed this only when I wanted to start another conky. KDE had moved the script to "old-autostart-scripte" and created a desktop configuration file ~/.config/autostart pointing to the new path.

1.12.2 does not need the -q switch here, nor is autostart broken. Its "conky manager" is fine.   tongue

Re: Show us your conky

Well, I have a death grip on conky v1.9.6 and I am not letting go of it until it no longer works.
Also, I do not use the BL 'Conky Manager'.

@ unklar - reread your original post.  It was my error for not misunderstanding.  But thank you for the further clarification.  And I actually did know what the '-q' option did, just momentarily forgot as I never use it.  smile

Teo is the male "Lucy"

End of the movie, a cop breaks into the room shoots the bad guy, looks around, "Where is she?"

His phone beeps and a message: "I am everywhere."

Great movie: Lucy - recommended.

Was not referring to the "smilie" at all - I totally missed that reference.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_(2014)

Re: Show us your conky

I just popped in to say the same thing.

The first line:

${if_match ${tztime Pacific/Honolulu %d|%m} == ${tztime NZ %d|%m}}${color6}${else}Honolulu ${tztime Pacific/Honolulu %d|%m} ${tztime Pacific/Honolulu %R}${color}${endif}\

causes a terminal error:

Conky: compare failed for expression '19|03 == 20|03'
Conky: Bad arguments: '19|03 ' and ' 20|03'

but removing the "|%m":

${if_match ${tztime Pacific/Honolulu %d} == ${tztime NZ %d}}${color6}${else}Honolulu ${tztime Pacific/Honolulu %d} ${tztime Pacific/Honolulu %R}${color}${endif}\

works just fine:

Conky: '/media/5/Conky/test.world.times.conky' modified, reloading...
Conky: desktop window (5b4) is root window
Conky: window type - normal
Conky: drawing to created window (0x2400001)
Conky: drawing to double buffer

What does not work anymore is the word image from "die.net"
But I do not see that here.

Fixing it up a but be right back
