pcmanfm is a good alternative to thunar, even lighter, do you find it?
Offline
Well, supposedly it still has GVFS integration with no real usability advantage over Thunar, so I'd consider both to be "equal" pieces of software. For example, rox-filer is probably faster than both Thunar and Pcmanfm, and brings to the table more innovative navigation options (extremely keyboard-centric, and thereby very efficent); pacmanfm does not have any game-changing advantages over Thunar AFAICT. So actually I have no real opinion on this :=

i always assumed it to be slightly lighter than thunar, but tbh i have no proof.
yes, the feature set is almost identical to thunar.
that said, spacefm is of course even better and does not require gvfs (whilst automounting of external drives is still possible).

You can't drag & drop items in pcmanfm. I use that a lot.

spacefm is heavier than thunar and pcmanfm

Why not use all three for a couple weeks and see which one fits your work flow. I've never considered the memory use/differences (assuming that is what you mean by "heavy") to be significant.

You must unlearn what you have learned.

spacefm is heavier than thunar and pcmanfm
define heavier, then substantiate this claim.
i'm no fanboi, but a statement like this requires context & facts.

If I'm reading this correctly, it looks like Spacefm is a lighter:
$ dpkg-query -Wf '${Installed-Size}\t${Package}\n' | sort -n|grep thunar
268 libthunarx-2-0
559 thunar-archive-plugin
603 thunar-media-tags-plugin
906 thunar
1137 thunar-volman
4407 thunar-data
$ dpkg-query -Wf '${Installed-Size}\t${Package}\n' | sort -n|grep spacefm*
1211 spacefm-gtk3
3285 spacefm-common
At any rate, spacefm is new to me and of some interest. I'll have to play around with it.

so the definition of light/heavy is the installed size?
of course one needs to also consider dependencies there.
what about performance during operation?
memory footprint?
and if one desires handling of peripherals, there's the HUGE topic of gvfs or not.
to my knowledge, spacefm is the only gui filemanager that offers a one-click solution without gvfs.

One thing I noticed straight away. Thunar takes a very long time to remove some Windows files. It came up again, so this time I used Spacefm, it removed the files instantly.
