Im thinking of switching to this terminal only file manager, it seems like it has the configuration you would want from such a program albeit it slimmed down/less bloat etc, i like the fact it uses xdg-open.

^I seldomly install random recommended programs, but this one I tried instantly Nice find. Although, I think I'm too used to ranger now, and have no desire to switch to 'nnn'.
EDIT: after seeing the video about 'nnn', I'm more and more interested in 'nnn' if it only had cpiture previewer as ranger has ... and yet, there are also lf (terminal file manager written in Go, heavily inspired by ranger with some missing and extra features) and fff (Fucking Fast File-Manager, written in bash) ]:D Ah ... one lifetime is not enough to try all file managers alone

I put that on my LXQt system, where it sits very nicely, looks almost exactly like WinDirStat on windows, but seems to work way faster. Though that may be a function of just how much stuff & cruft is on my Windows box.
i think i once compared QDirStat to a similar tool for the gnome desktop (gnome-disks?), and it really is much, much lighter.
in fact, comparing it to ncdu, it seems equally quick and responsive.

fwiw, nnn has been vetted & recommended by quite many people across forums.
I believe it is very, very, veryvery fast because coded in C.
it's been around almost 5 years now and very active with 40 developers.
if i'd ever consider using a cli filemanager fulltime, i think i would choose that over something Go or python based.

^Personally, I gave up GUI file managers a few years ago ... I keep Thunar around only to mount USB disks and SDcards (being lazy to fire up terminal and write 'lsblk' and 'sudo mount') ... I know, I know <facepalm>

yep nnn is pretty damn fast, it doesnt really matter to me regarding pictures that is what an image browser is for.

Thanks for the feedback and adds. Sure John, merge this if you like. Meant to look for an existing thread on the topic but was lazy.

Done.
I hope the interleaving isn't too confusing.

Hey thanks John. Will post anything related to this, in this thread. Do think ncdu is a good utility.

ncdu +1
If I use it often enough I'll start to remember the command...

quodlibet
This is a really feature rich audio player, i was using deadbeef for a little while but back to quodlibet. Imo best audio player there is in the gnu/linux world.

If you exit the application part way through a song, will it resume where it left off when restarted?

^ yes it does.

I've just set Quodlibet up and you are right. It is pretty damn good.

Why do you prefer it to deadbeef?
I just prefer quodlibet more as it has features im familiar with and doesn't need to be configured as much as deadbeef.
To be honest I found deadbeef frustrating to set up and get most of my collection onto where as quodlibet handled my well over 20k music library easily.
Here is a bit of a comparison below, deadbeef seems like the better player to most but i disagree

If I am allowed to answer this question even isn't been addressed to me.
I use DeaDBeeF because for his similarity and imitation of Foobar2000 that is for me an ideal player on Windows.
I like the fact that i can play Audio directly from archive(RAR/ZIP):
[070718][170901] キラメキラリ from THE IDOLM@STER MASTER ARTIST 02 高槻やよい (FLAC 96kHz_24bit).zip
[150603][181221] Bonus-B 99 Nights (M@STER VERSION) (美希・伊織・貴音リミックス) (FLAC 96kHz_24bit).rar
DeaDBeeF/Foobar2000 are unique on their kind to play Archive Audio files.
I do not know the other player to do this without 3rd party addons/plugins.
Could play very fine Hi-Res audio DSD/DSF as if it were FLAC/MP3.
Support WAV Covers, while Foobar2000 supports WAV Tags editor.
Have very good (default) settings to play Hi-Res 32bit WAV/FLAC 96kHz, 24bit FLAC 48kHz alone without the help of anything else 3rd party addon or plugin.
May run as a binary portable mode without installing tons of library like many other players.
Just extract the zip archive on your home and run it. Only 15MB space occupation take.
Gives us the ability to play with UI.
Is very lightweight, very minimal for a GUI.
The second player in my row is Audacious, even this one walks in the footsteps of Foobar2000.
An old scrot of my custom, night-mode & currently in use.
last but not least
DeaDBeef/Foobar2000 are highly interested for Audiophiles. These are just some features that i like about this player.
If you have been an occasional user of Foobar2000, this and Audacious are the most common.
