Clock shows correct time only when conected to the internet !

I have searched "bunsenlabs clock update only online", but the only links show these possible terminal entries

sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales

sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata

This does not correct the issue. So when the laptop is connected by wifi, the clock on start up corrects to the right time (after a few seconds).

But when the laptop is run offline, the wrong date and time develops.

Is there anyway for the clock to run constantly. The battery stays constant the clock only corrects when online.

Re: Clock shows correct time only when conected to the internet !

I'am guessing this is an older laptop where the CMOS clock battery is dead? Or perhaps a laptop that wasn't used for a while (In that case cmos can sometimes magically repair after some time on power)?

@OP: are you dual-booting?

Re: Clock shows correct time only when conected to the internet !

The laptop is actually brand new ASUS, top of the range, ultra thin, high spec, SSD, high res, etc....

The problem is not the motherboard battery.

The actual problem is where the computer refreshes the time when connecting online, after a boot up, the clock sets to the correct time and date.

if its offline for a day, the clock is wrong, even the date.

So strange.

Re: Clock shows correct time only when conected to the internet !

after OS gets correct time from the internet,

$ hwclock -w

will sync hardware clock with system time. Theoretically should only need to do this once?

Re: Clock shows correct time only when conected to the internet !

During install, I noticed a question about using npt time (is that right?), by connecting to the internet, rather than using just system time. Maybe something there?

More likely, the Cmos battery on your motherboard is going bad.

well is it dual-booting or not?
if not, go into BIOS and adjust the clock.
if yes, additionally tell MS windows to stop messing with your hardware clock.

I would try changing the CMOS battery on the motherboard, that's all I can think of hmm
