Hello,thanks for sharing your ideas.
I'd like to add one more suggestion. There was a very nice distribution very similar to Bunselabs called Semplice Linux but it's no longer under development. It was interesting because there was a menu builder called alan, which I was very comfortable with, since I don't have much time for configuring and I'd like to get things done quickly. When I installed some package the icons in the menu were already there. It was very cool and a great commodity for non-experts. Here is the repo for the code:
https://github.com/semplice
It would very nice to have this implemented into Bunsenlabs: of course it could be an option after installation or maybe an idea respin for newbies.
I really hope Bunsenlabs developer could consider it.

Also note there is a thread in the forum's "Scripts, Tutorials and Tips" section about a number of dynamic menu generating gizmos available for Openbox: Dynamic Menus
The alan gizmo might fit in with that list?

Yes,alan is written in Python and it was available as deb package. It should be easy to be rebuilt and added to the BL repository.

no clue how it works.
trizen's obmenu-generator has been my favorite for too long...

It should be just a matter of downloading the source code of alan2 from github semplice repository and rebuilding the deb against updated dependencies. I'll try it during summertime.
