Hi everyone, still new here...but I've noticed there's no real place for people to post general questions. Perhaps we don't want to turn this into a "help desk" forum, but I feel like I there's no place to post questions about general linux/unix inquries. Like if I have a question about how linux handles the GUI, I feel like it's not appropriate to post it in the GUI forum, which is more for specific Bunsenlab setups etc, not really for a random question.

We've got "Help & Support (Other)" for general support questions, and if you just want to discuss something about Linux (or BSD or...) please use "Off Topic" - it's not only for art and philosophy.

just my 2ct:
linuxquestions.org has a "general" section, and i don't much care for it.
it seems they don't have a seperate off-topic section, so anything can get chucked in there, whether it's about the weather, google or an actual linux problem.
i never felt the need for an extra section here - if it doesn't fit another section, i was always happy to put it in off-topic.
edit:
actually i'm sorry i brought this up as a comparison.
i don't think bunsenlabs forums can compare to linuxquestions, it would be foolish to do so.

Maybe "Off Topic" is a bit too dismissive as a name? Something like "...everything else"?

There are some topics in Off Topic, which are in some way connected to Linux and to BunsenLabs, which should be in another section, maybe Linux in General. They are usually not questions, even though some might start as a question.
The other posts in Off Topic are more like discussions in social websites. They may keep filling up, showing a lot of traffic, but ...

but that's just my point.
off topic has to be exactly that, otherwise people start chucking all their questions & rants into "general" or "everything else".
have a look at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … general-1/ - most of the topics there clearly belong into one of the clear subcategories as found here.
and, come on, we all know that the juiciest bits of all forums are in off topic.
i mean it's no biggie, just my 2ct (4 by now).

Yes, "Off topic" is a good name, it describes exactly that.

This, please.
I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?
