Hey maybe you guys could help me, I was just going to delete the profile but I deleted the whole .mozilla folder in /home/user and now it doesn't work anymore at all anymore, trying to do a new install but i get this: Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I've tried to create a new profile and folder etc but it doesn't work, tried all possible solution's I read online but nothing is working.

If you deleted the .mozilla folder you can try this:
in terminal:
firefox -P
This starts the Firefox Profile Manager. You click the Create Profile button to start the wizard to create a profile, Follow the prompts to create the profile including giving a name for the profile you want to create. Let it create a default folder. Click Finish when done.
Hope this helps.

this shouldn't happen, firefox should just think that it's starting for the first time.
did you delete ~/.mozilla completely, or does that folder still exist?
if so, just rename it, or delete it completely.
and there's no reason to reinstall firefox because of that.

You need to post the actual commands that you used rather than a vague description
Firefox should start fine without a profile, it creates a new one when it starts.
Please open a terminal and run this command and post any output that appears:
firefox-esr

Hello and thanks for the responds, i did uninstall and reinstall it, it doesn't create a new profile folder, I tried the firefox -P command but all i get is Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I have never ever had any problems with this before, I've deleted and removed firefox before and it always created a new profile. I even tried Firefox quantum and didn't even install it just downloaded it extracted it and clicked and it worked but not anymore, its very weird. The .mozilla folder is completely deleted.

^As HoaS pointed out, opening a terminal, running "firefox-esr" and having a look at the output might be helpful.
I think there are two directories for Firefox in userspace: ~/.mozilla and ~/.cache/mozilla. When you check those directories via File Manager, make sure the File Manager shows hidden files.
Otherwise you can try to remove firefox again using:
sudo apt purge firefox-esr
and completely removing those two directories^, having a restart just to be sure and again:
sudo apt install firefox-esr

Hi and sorry to bother you further with this, but it doesn't work. When I run firefox-esr from terminal I get this : (firefox-esr:2973): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion 'object->ref_count > 0' failed and then the usual : Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I've deleted both ~/.mozilla and ~/.cache/mozilla folders etc.

I've just deleted ~/.mozilla and when I run firefox it just makes a new one without any complaints.
Do you still have this problem if you create a new, fresh user (for testing purposes)?
I suppose we should also see the output of
apt policy
Just in case™

Hi I installed from terminal sudo apt install firefox-esr and here is the output.
ls -la ~ total 504 drwxr-xr-x 55 root root 4096 Mar 11 21:45 . <--- this looks wrong, norm for BL instsall? drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Mar 21 2016 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3719 Mar 25 2016 agu.log
That first line is suspicious; On any of my systems (Void linux, ArchLabs) that is:
drwx------ <username> <username/group>
Directories like /usr/local/bin have that sort of designation. You may have an ownership issue/conflict going on in your home directory.
Do you have (can you create) another username you can log into and check the "ls -la" for that and see if firefox-esr runs for that user?

^Yeah, that line is the same here, I can confirm. Wrong permissions might explain why Firefox could not open a Profile from userspace.

So that is default for BL?
The "ls -la" oputput looks that way on my system if I log into tty as root.

Hi ok i don't have another username, so how exactly do I create one. Is it with adduser? That doesn't good with wrong permissions and etc, but I never changed anything regarding permissions and so.

@pozric You can follow this guide to create a new user.
@PackRat I meant it's the same here like on your systems. That line does not look ok.

A new install shouldn't be necessary. There are methods to fix what may have happened to your system.

Ok thanks yeah I am waiting for the new BL release anyway, but this didn't sound good. Is it dangerous somehow?
