Re: December 2017 Screenshot Thread

The hinge on my systemd laptop broke so I've had to wipe the OpenBSD system on my ThinkPad and reinstall in a dual-boot (with Alpine Linux[1]) so a nice fresh system for me:

screenFetch-2017-12-30_13-39-00.th.png

I've only installed a few packages outside the base system:

Puffy: ~ $ pkg_info -m
chromium-62.0.3202.94 Chromium browser
git-2.15.1 GIT - Tree History Storage Tool
most-5.0.0ap0 browse or page through a text file
ranger-1.7.2p0 minimalistic console file manager
screenfetch-3.8.0p0 display system information in the terminal for screenshots
vim-8.0.1255p0-no_x11 vi clone, many additional features
w3m-0.5.3p5-image pager/text-based web browser
zathura-0.3.7 document viewer for PDF and other formats with a vi-like UI
Puffy: ~ $

Let's see how long I can keep it that "clean" big_smile

Re: December 2017 Screenshot Thread

And here's the new Alpine Linux system:

2017-12-30-172649_1280x800_scrot.th.pngneofetch-2017-12-30-05-27-55-18947.th.png

Not much change from my usual desktop but the status readout in the panel is slightly simplified (taking inspiration from @PackRat) and uses this line in ~/.xinitrc:

until false;do xsetroot -name "$(cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/capacity)% · $(date +'%F · %T')";sleep 1;done&

I was using slstatus for that but I have found that as long as ~/.xinitrc has a #!/bin/sh shebang then it doesn't use any more memory than the compiled C program:

 44.0 KiB + 404.0 KiB = 448.0 KiB	sh

Note that this method only works if /bin/sh is linked to dash (or something equally lightweight) so Arch users will have to follow https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Da … 2Fbin.2Fsh to enjoy the benefits.

I'm using Microsoft's fonts, Arial is set as sans-serif and it is just gorgeous (IMO).

^ Nice prompt!

Ah yes, zsh — none more configurable glasses

If it's not a personal question, how big's your .zshrc?

I used to use zsh with grml's configuration file and that was almost 4,000 lines long big_smile

My needs are simpler these days:

alpine:~$ wc -l ~/.kshrc
13 /home/empty/.kshrc
alpine:~$

Re: December 2017 Screenshot Thread

Yes, but does it have the fuzzy autocomplete? (stuff TAB becomes 1767121_stuff_here.jpg for example), actually that is probably a single thing i'am missing in your ordinary bash prompt.

And then some smile

The grml configuration even does auto-spell-correction cool

Re: December 2017 Screenshot Thread

Well, there are currently three different (actively maintained) implementations of the Korn Shell programming language:

  1. AT&T's ksh93, this is David G Korn's original KornShell

  2. OpenBSD's ksh(1), a public domain version of the AT&T shell, they share no code

  3. mksh, MirBSD's fork of OpenBSD's ksh, the default shell for Android

ksh93 is extremely full-featured (more so than bash or even zsh in respect of it's type system) but it is geared more towards scripting so I'm not sure about fuzzy tab completion but the stock .kshrc has a really nice menu-style completion system.

The other two versions are very much stripped-to-the-bone and lack quite a few of the features found in more "advanced" shells but I would liken them to openbox or dwm with bash & zsh playing the part of GNOME & KDE, if you will forgive the crude analogy.
