Hi,
i installed a minimal Debian Strech AMD64.
Then i started an upgrade to SID.
Added bunsenlabs-repository.
Updated with
apt-get update
Installed bunsenlabs
apt-get install bunsen-*
2GiB later, in restarted my computer, typed in my login-name and password and got this error message:
xrdb command not found ...
Hit ok, and everything works fine, desktop and bl-welcome-script appears...
Rebooted, error message appears again.
Opend a new terminal, installed x11-xserver-utils and rebooted, no there is no more error message.
I know that i should use "original" bl-iso, but maybe there is a dependency missing somewhere
inside of the bl-metapackages?
Regardes and thanks for that wonderfull "addon called bl"

Dear all,
as i wrote in my first bug-report, there are packages missing on my Debian Sid AMD64.
I am not sure wheter you are interested or not ...
Here is a small list of "xyz is missing":
- lxappearance
- tint2 (got no panel)
- x11-xserver-utils
- synaptic
- x based browser (iceweasel, midori, ...)
- bl-file-manager (thunar)
- bl-text-editor
Regardes,

For the benefit of others, here's mal-zeits first bug report.
I don't believe you can upgrade a vanilla Debian install by adding the BunsenLabs repo and then performing a:
sudo apt-get install bunsen-*
All that does is install packages from the BunsenLabs repo beginning with bunsen-. Take a look at the following posts over in the CrunchBang forums and see if they might be helpful. I can't vouch if the scripts still work as most efforts lately have been getting the ISO in shape.
http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=39656
http://www.crunchbang.org/forums/viewto … 94#p430094
If you didn't perform a netinstall, it might be better to just use the current BunsenLabs ISO to perform a new install and then change the Debian repos to point to Unstable and then perform a dist-upgrade. Just my $0.02...

How can you say there is a bug when you did not follow the installation instructions. Debian Unstable is just that at the moment. The logical way would be to install from the BL iso and check it all works then change the repros.

The bug reports should only be for BunsenLabs RC1 based on Jessie, and not for any other, I suppose.

Hi,
sorry, maybe i misunderstood the aim of BL;
always thought that it is something that i can "put on top" of a debian-base-system?
The packages are built and made to be installed on Debian Jessie systems.
(Yes, it is Jessie and not Sid, i know!)
So, i install a debian system, add bl-repository and when choosing bunsenlabs-*, all packages which are used by bl are installed automatically via apt?!
My suggestion is: enlarge/add some "depends on" to a meta-package called bl-programms.ensure-whatever.deb
JUST a suggestion, an idea, maybe stupid, maybe bad, maybe... keep it in mind or throw it aways.
Because i (my own opinion) think that there are some dependencies missing (offering synaptic as package manager should include that it's already installed). If you do not think same, it is okay; i just wanted you to know that and it is your choice to use this information or not
Btw: bl is running fine here, i just had to install some programms/packages.. that's it!
and, once again: i am deeply thankful for continuation of CB as BL!
Regardes,

100% correct, but i believe (not sure) it is a packaging-problem based on missing dependencies.
... and Sid will become stable in some years :-D

You can, of course, install bunsen packages in sid, only you have to do it at your risk. If for example, synaptic doesn't work in your sid install, it is not a BunsenLabs bug.

Is Tint2 installed but just not showing on desktop, I don't know but maybe BL scripts installed later do not write to the openbox autostart.sh

Yes, but the BL install runs a lot of configuration, which you will have to do manually with your approach.

Synaptic is installed in BL. I think your issues are because of your installation method. As @krunch said - install BL RC1 first, make sure everything is fine, then dist-upgrade. Or use the netinstall method.

I for one do not want to see a bunch of dependencies added to BL. We already offer two ways to install it: one from iso and one from the command line using johnraff's netinstall method. Both will result in a BunsenLabs system, although there may be slight differences between the two. If you choose to build it yourself, then it is up to you to figure it all out. Meta packages such as the big DE's use is just counter to our philosophy around here. Considering I have never loaded synaptic, it would be nice for me to be able to apt purge it and remove its entry from my menu. That gets a lot more difficult when you have a bunch of dependencies written into your package chains.

No, "Stretch" (testing) will be stable. "Sid" (unstable) will stay unstable. Yes this is nitpicking.

I know that Sid Is Dangerous, and synaptic works fine in SID, but only if installed --it is only shown in menu (menu is "created" by BL) but not installed by BL
Is Tint2 installed but just not showing on desktop, I don't know but maybe BL scripts installed later do not write to the openbox autostart.sh
tint2 was NOT installed, i had manually do an "apt-get install tint2" and since that point of time, i have a 100% working panel on top of my desktop!

I did not want to get a SID, i just wanted to see whether it is possible to add BL to my minimal Debian or not. It is possible, but (in my opinion) some dependencies have not been set correct. When i offer (e.g.)synaptic as choice, package that created the desktop-menu has to install synaptic automatically (depends-on: synaptic). But that is only my opinion which i wanted you (all guys listening) to know

Okay okay... next try:"when sid grows up and gets adult..." ]:D

http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=39656 is the way you want to go about it. We offered you a way to build it from the command line. There is no need for a ton of dependencies.

I'm merging this with your new bug report.
I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

Of course not. BL Hydrogen RC1 is ~99% Debian jessie but there are a million ways to configure jessie. That's like complaining that you don't have GNOME even though you installed the jessie Live Xfce4 image. <-- I didn't mean for that to sound quite so harsh, but hopefully you see what I mean.
The installation instructions specifically say that the repository method allows you to selectively install our packages to "use only a subset of our configurations and assets."
If you want to see what packages you're missing, you can output dpkg -l on your system to a text file and compare it with the package list I've posted...
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 2772#p2772
This will output dpkg -l to text file in your home directory...
dpkg --get-selections > MyPackages
Also, as stated earlier in the thread, something like bunsen-configs won't overwrite the configs in your home directory, you'll have to copy the configs over from, I think (damo or John, please confirm), /usr/share/bunsen/skel (make sure you can see hidden files/folders).

Ah i see my erorr 8o I always thought that BL should be something like (e.g.) the metapackages from ubuntu called lubuntu-core or kubuntu-core...
Regarding errors (to ensure everyone understands): everything/configs work fine, just some programms are missing
