I have changed the original post in the thread and added details of the configuration minutiae for any that are curious.

Added a few more command line monitors (including glances) and restored the "Welcome!" message with ♯!-specific content.
EDIT: finalised on Dina font for urxvt.
I think this is the final change for the main image for the moment so go ahead and download it if you want to test stuff, any bug reports or suggestions will be gratefully received.
I may put out an OpenRC version at some point. If I can figure it out...

SharpBang now supports UEFI booting
Scrot or it didn't happen:
I've also added grml's lovely wrapper script for debootstrap; if run without arguments thusly:
sudo grml-debootstrap
an interactive (ncurses) installer will start up and install any version of Debian to a selected mountpoint.
EDIT: please accept my humble apologies for the appalling quality of the boot splash screens (both of them): I was going for a rough-and-ready look but I think I over-achieved somewhat

It will be a year next month since pv has visited these boards and we all miss him terribly, the place just doesn't feel the same without that blue badge around
I have included ponysay in ♯! as a mark of respect to a great #!er
EDIT: updated the image again, changed from mirage to geeqie and from file-roller to xarchiver (so no GTK3 anymore) and a few other details.

Quite. I'm also wondering what had happened to him ...

Added Debian's new UEFI tool suite to the image, these include:
https://packages.debian.org/stretch/efivar (manage EFI variables)
https://packages.debian.org/stretch/sbsigntool (manipulate signatures on UEFI binaries and drivers)
https://packages.debian.org/stretch/pesign (signing utility for UEFI binaries )
https://packages.debian.org/stretch/shim (chain-load signed boot loaders under Secure Boot)
So it should now be possible to implement Secure Boot from ♯! for any installed system by following this guide:

Ranger now has preview images enabled and I have included the HashTool & UEFI shell utilities (stolen from Arch's image) to allow Secure Boot to be enabled for the ISO and UEFI variables to be changed from the GRUB menu.
The ISO is now looking a bit bloated but the functionality is unmatched (IMO).

The UEFI shells are not working on my laptop but the UEFI firmware on that device is barely functional so it may be a problem at my end, as such I am leaving the GRUB entries in place for others to test.
The HashTool seems to work, enroll loader.efi to be able to boot the ISO with Secure Boot enabled.

Cleaned up the boot options and removed openbox-menu because the auto-generated version is rubbish and has duplicated and superfluous entries with some items in the wrong sub-menu
The main menu is now entirely static and uses generic categories rather than the application names, this seems to make more sense in a fixed environment.

Changed to the stretch-backports kernel (4.13 series) for better hardware (& nftables) support.
EDIT: switched to the Liquorix kernel instead, that tracks upstream closer and should work better for desktop usage.

So this is still a WIP Hoas?

^ yes, very much so
I even changed the kernel between your post and my reply

When i used the liquorix kernel awhile ago now i noticed it used my cpu on idle more than my ram, is that still the case?

^ No idea, I don't have time for benchmarks — do you have a link to yours? 8o
EDIT: found some: http://openbenchmarking.org/result/1601 … ERNELTES68
Anyway, the plan is to keep the image updated as the kernel version moves forward, I use it myself so it will be well maintained.

Not really a benchmark, just a readout from htop, i remember reading on idle that cpu was up around 20 percent and fluctuating on idle with just the system running and nothing else,i was using arch at the time, think it was archbang. Ill install the liquorix kernel on my current archbang setup and do a bench test another day.

Off topic but the Liquorix kernel is an AUR package, I prefer the linux-zen package from [Extra] — that has the exact same patchset as Liquorix but it's an official Arch package
