that should be called from executor and might show some little graphics to indicate what desktop you are on, executor example in the bottom.

If you ever try something like that you may know it can be challenging (Like running 2 tint2s), but that was in pre-executor era.

I just use different color codes in the tint2 configuration file for task active and task.

It's mostly a visual toy, example of actual usage would be for someone that uses something like 'taskbar_distribute_size = 1'  'taskbar_mode = single_desktop' and 'number of desktops > 2'. Another actual usage (i could think of right now) would be to disable root openbox rscroll/lscroll and use only the one in the thing.
