We have been working on some ideas, and would like to bring a bit of colour to the Helium desktop (shock, horror!).
So what do the users think about these?....
Helium colours (Beam theme), with Paper (or perhaps Papirus) icons. Tint2 is tweaked, with more configs to choose from. The default exit dialog will match, but the original "classic" one is still available.
We are also proposing to ship some alternative setups for the BLOB theme manager, so restoring the BL Hydrogen or Crunchbang look is only a mouse-click away
All the conkys have been updated to v1.10, but bl-conkypin has been re-written to work with both old and new versions.
EDIT:
Exit dialog, and Tint2 alternate with Shutdown (bl-exit) button

Love it, it is beautiful *.* Yes, please, at least as configurable option ^^

I like those icons. Otherwise I'm a grey-on-grey-theme kind of guy, so if it'll be easily available, that's what I'm going for. For me that exit button in the corner seems to be slightly oversized, but the desktop looks nice. I'm not sure if other users like it, but having a light color border of the active icon in tint2 looks good imo. All in all with that tint2 and bl-exit the desktop looks much more polished than the first release, well done.

I think this is a mistake. The BL "brand" is monochromatic grey as inherited from Crunchbang. The time to radically change the look is when the underlying content and design also radically change. BL is "young", still recapturing former CB users and recruiting new ones; consistency is important.
Case in point: Ubuntu. For their first six years, their palette was brown and orange. Many thought it was fugly, but one look and you knew you had Ubuntu. From release to release, the palette stability signaled a fundamentally unchanged distro and inspired confidence. This "marketing psychology" shouldn't matter, but it does.
The next release should have a graphic evolution, not a color makeover. Even if you think it's fugly.

It is very hard to evolve from monochrome to something else, so blame me for pushing to use the Debian 9 colour palette as a basis for a "makeover". The CB/BL setup will still be provided though, as a user choice.
BLOB Themes provided Helium Dark
Helium Beam + Clock (it is behind the Appearance window
)
Crunchbang
NB: some of these scrots are from my desktop, which uses 4 workspaces. The default is the usual 2.

Looks nice so How can I change the bl-exit color as I have the blue one and would like the dark themed one. Is there a config option or a separate package ?

I really like the beam + papirus move.
What matters more to me is the openbox + tint2 + conky + pipemenus environment. It's what drew me to BL and what I hope remains a 'defining' feature (in addition to the active and friendly community of course :-))

Read the comments in "bl-exitrc", and see "/usr/share/bunsen/docs/helpfile-bl-exit.txt". There is also an entry in the default Menu: "Menu -> Help & Resources -> Bunsen Help Files", which displays the helpfile.

Great, thanks I will take a look at that.

I am for the all-grey party -- for the sheer minimalism of it and for a practical reason: It recuses the risk of colour bias when working with photos.
All options do look good though. I just prefer all-grey.

Hmmm for some reason I do not see the helpfile for bl-exit. Maybe need to update the package?

If you still have the deuterium version of bl-exit, there is help in the header comments of bl-exitrc.

Ah, OK, looks like the latest bunsen-docs hasn't been packaged yet. You can get the file fom the helium-dev branch
Did you read your bl-exitrc? The info is already in there
EDIT: Probably best to take any questions to a new thread, so this doesn't get side-tracked

Hey damo, I've always thought BL (actually #! back in the day) looks and feels great with a light colored theme. Have you seen Sarai-the-geek's work?

I've been clamoring for something that looks like this for a while.

Easily tweaked with "button_max_icon_size = " in the tint2rc.

That AllGray theme is nice. I tried it out once, but too bright for my eyes most of the time!

I like it.
Having the coloured theming as an option would be a nice touch imo.

1. That conky info in crunchbang scrot is way better than the rest (different font, toned down), so either:
a. killall conky
b. use fonts from crunchbang scrot
p.s. BunsenLabs Grey is close if you remove that green tint.
2. That volume thing on 1st scrot is way too big (I'd disable that)
3. I would center bunsenlabs logo (subjective, but users might want to use screen edges for various bars/conkies, so slightly objective as well). Also I'd use that fuzzy flame version without the letters, or that circular logo. That would also maintain compatibility with front page.
4. The exit thing is typical example of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mystery_meat_navigation. < That definitely needs fixing first imho.
5. Color scheme is quite a lot to take actually (high complexity), even if it does look simple at first (Debian uses white logo/sign to kinda counterweight that or to put us into correct white-balance mode, also they carefully balanced contrast of the entire piece).
p.s. A bit of 'research'
Generaly speaking gradients are a lot to take as it seems, while this boxes may look cute, they are overwhelming when put into fullscreen mode (like wallpaper). p.s. Forcing gradients into ellipsoid shape does help a lot little imho. edit: In this specific case there is also disagreement with flatish paper icons.

I also vote for the grey-dark look. It is more neutral if one wants to build on it. It is more minimalistic. And it's good for getting into a neutral frame of mind for looking at photos-graphics.
But, an "easily choosable" color look is fine because choice is always good.

I personally like the blue damo. Would love to see a bl-emissions wallpaper for helium as well when you get the time, sir. I used your previous two quite frequently.

This would need some work (technically and to get colors right), but along this lines perhaps (if ferlauf is really wanted), wip

It is quite interesting that such grain is even possible in vectorial pics.
