[SOLVED] Unable to run executable programs

I downloaded FreeFileSync, extracted it and when double clicked the executable file, nothing shows up. Running the program from the terminal gives the following output.

dm@linux:~/Downloads/FreeFileSync$ sudo FreeFileSync
[sudo] password for dm:
sudo: FreeFileSync: command not found

I have checked the option "Allow this program to run as an executable" in the properties>permissions.

I downloaded from here. I even downloaded the older version for Debian 9 from here. But it doesn't make any difference. It doesn't run.

On the other hand, I am able to execute AppImages by double clicking on them.

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to run executable programs

It works fine for me, on Debian 9.

You have posted in the Basic Help & Support area, which is still for Debian 8. Are you running BL Hydrogen (Debian 8 ), which is now old-stable?

Maybe try FreeFileSync 8.10

I am using Deuterium which is based on Debian 8.8.

FFS 9.0 and 8.10 which are both for Debian 8.7 worked. I am not sure why it didn't work earlier.

Thank you for your support damo.

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to run executable programs

Since we already have Free File Sync builds in MX Linux, I took a few minutes to set up an OBS repo for various Debian and Ubuntu releases:

https://build.opensuse.org/package/show … eefilesync

Since it's a single deb, you can just click on the "Download Package" link, click on the Debian or Ubuntu logo, and go down to the bottom to grab the binary deb directly, then install it manually with gdebi.
