My latest incarnation of the Bunsenlabs desktop. I like the minimal bar conky as i can position my browser just so i can see it and the tint2 panel, modified damos tint2 a little bit as well.

OT
On my first very underpowered laptop (140MHz, 16MB) occasionally W98 would just freak out and go into a totally psychedelic rehash of the desktop for a while till it got its wits back together. Pity I haven't got a scrot of it.

Re: July 2017 Screenshots

for years I'd be searching for tintimage, tonimage so one day I just stared at it after damo reminded me ...

Word association, that's what I'll do  ...
OK, I keep things in tins, screws, nails, etc. and
I see them with my eyes ... OK I got it. tineye RIGHT!

WRONG!
Next time I went looking I couldn't figure out why tincan didn't work ... then it hit, right between the lookers: tineye - laughed so hard calling myself a dummy I've never forgotten since.

@PackRat, not much of a panel person but does polybar support multiple monitors (span screens) or do you need to run multiple instances, like tint2?

I don't really know. No example for dual monitor setup though.

So I guess you would need to launch multiple instances.

Re: July 2017 Screenshots

Image previews have started working in ranger (also within tmux):

2017-07-22-111153_1280x800_scrot.th.png

The updated graphics stack in OpenBSD-current has pushed the RAM usage up by 15MiB [1] but there is a definite improvement in performance so it seems worthwhile.

[1] From ~55MiB to ~70MiB, which is still a record low for that (64-bit) hardware.

Alpine manages ~100MiB with the same desktop (dwm), Debian stretch hovers at ~130MiB and bloaty old Arch chugs along with ~150MiB.

I hadn't issue previewing images on ranger via tmux, the only issue i had with w3m-img doesn't keep the image forever, whenever i leave the focus for other views, I must click the image name to show the preview again on the same filename.
IIRC this was an early concern that hadn't found a solution as long as I've seen it. I don't know if a fixed is found yet.

I solved the preview by using "caca-utils" and "file".
Surely pixelated not cleaned view. At least the image stay sticked unmoved until i click other image name..

While 50/70MB RAM for 64bit is a historic record. I never saw anyone having two digits RAM on a 64bit.
I've seen enough.

Thank you for reviewing these general details regarding ram usage on those distros, Always like to watch when people comparing smile

Weird thing is that image previews used to work fine but then it stopped for a while (with the same configuration) but now it's back again, which is nice.

Perhaps I removed a critical package without realising and recently re-installed it; I did always have www/w3m installed (the Image flavour) so it must have been something else.

Silly scrot-within-a-scrot to stay on topic:

Re: July 2017 Screenshots

Glad to hear is working back. I hope you'll catch the reason why it happened in a way.

I like a lot ranger, is the 2nd file manager that i always install and use. I used to like Midnight Commander (mc), but ranger is way superior for my needs.

@searchone very nice desktop mate!
